I heard the new owners were keeping the same restaurant recipes so decided to try this place out after Angie's closed. My two favorite things on the menu at Angie's were the deep fried mushroom appetizer and of course cabbage rolls. The deep fried mushrooms at Angie's were made by cutting button mushrooms vertically into three or four slices before breading them. This resulted in delicious fried mushrooms that you could bite into without getting that squirt of hot Mushroom juice running down your chin that makes the breading all soggy. It was obvious these mushrooms came out of a bag in the freezer-- they were blasè standard bar food fried mushrooms you can get anywhere. Meh. Deeply disappointed. Held out hope for the cabbage rolls. I'm not sure what changed, the recipe or the cooking technique. First off sauerkraut had absolutely no sauerkraut flavor. All I could taste was canned tomato, no spices. Then I dug into the meatball which looked and tasted like it was more than 50% rice. The mashed potatoes were the only thing I had that was tasty (the one star was for them). We were there early afternoon on a Saturday when it wasn't very busy yet service was slow and spotty. In addition, the decor has been redone and removed everything that had any capability of absorbing sound; it's very brittle and noisy inside even when it's not crowded. And multiple TVs playing, all tuned to different channels WITH sound playing IN ADDITION to the music. In my opinion you need to be drinking to even be able to stand the atmosphere there. Despite the fact that there are more tables, the bar business is the very obvious focus. I will...
Read moreThis place is what used to be Angi's Firehouse Tavern. The decor is definitely different, as it's a country and Western themed place now, but gives the place a different but inviting atmosphere. The food we had was basic, my barbecue themed hot shot tasted like Buddy's barbecue from Kroger's, while the mashed potatoes were good, but the baked beans tasted a bit canned. Lisa's fish and chips were bland. The waffle fries were a nice touch, but weren't fried enough. The pricing was also up a bit from Angi's as well. There did not seem to be the same amount of business as usual, but that may have changed as well. So far, the food was not quite the same quality of Angi's..... But even closer. Overall not thrilling, but part of that may be that we miss Angi's and may have to give it a second...
Read moreWe stopped in on a Saturday night and was surprised that the place wasn’t to busy. We placed our order and food came quickly enough. The burger was awesome, much better than the hot shot. Both were great portions. The atmosphere I am sure on a busy normal night would be alive and fun. The issue we had as we ate dinner there were a couple of loud patrons. Regulars I am sure. Yet one of them was on tirade, and at time there was racist comments being made. Or racial slurs, multiple times without the staff saying anything. This made us pretty uncomfortable, language and some idiocracy is expected. We were in a bar after all, but not use of racial slurs. This was not said by the staff, but it was...
