I ordered pies for Thanksgiving 10 days in advance of pick-up. I ordered 5 pies total (pumpkin, cherry, pecan, apple, and chocolate peanut butter) and was told I'd receive a call to pick them up on the specified day. When the day arrived, I called the shop about 3 hours to close to see if they were ready for pick-up, only to be informed that only 4 of my 5 pies were available, and that they were sold out of chocolate peanut butter. This was incredibly frustrating given I had placed the order 10 days in advance and was not given any indication that it wouldn't be available, and if I hadn't called for the status of the pies I likely would not have been told until I picked them up. Over the phone they said they were sold out of all their cream pies, but luckily upon pick-up they informed me they had chocolate cream pies in stock that they substituted in (spoiler alert: all were delicious!).
I just find it incredibly frustrating and extremely poor business practice to not inform customers who order in advance that there may be an issue with fulfilling their order the moment the issue arises. I'm unsure if they had been out of stock of the ingredients for a while (in which case I would have liked to have received a call when this had happened as opposed to having to call myself), or if they had them in stock and just sold them to walk-in customers as they came in through the day, ignoring their orders placed in advance (which I consider to be bad business practice, reflects extremely poorly on management, and completely defeats the purpose of ordering ahead.
After reading other reviews, it appears this is a frequent issue that management has not responded to and does not seem interested in fixing, so shame on me for not reading the warnings, caveat emptor I suppose. I am, however, glad to have received a replacement pie from their current stock, so by no means a total loss. However, I'm very hesitant to purchase from Mehaffies in the future, and will definitely warn others of my issues when I am asked to recommend bakeries in...
Read moreMy family went to Mehaffies Pie shop since I was a little girl until I moved to TN 10yrs ago. I still remember how amazing their Strawberry Pies were every Spring and summer. Piled so high and the strawberries huge! Always great flavor never sickening sweet just great strawberry flavor and super fresh flaky crust. My next favorite was probably the Pecan! So good that my Dad would still send them to me to TN for Thanksgiving and Christmas when he went back to Mahaffies Pies. They have a lot of great flavors I love and several other great items those just happen to be my very favorites. They still remind me of home and of my parents still today-even though my Mom didn't actually make them I'd bet she probably passed a few off (not vocally just by sitting them down in a nice dish lol) as her own as family and church functions over the years : ) If you're ever in the Dayton,Ohio area or on the internet trolling for great pies-Get one shipped! They make awesome...
Read moreI have had pies from here many times and they are wonderful...however they need rethink how they handle call ahead orders. I called in early November around the tenth or so and ordered 2 pies for pickup on the tues before Thanksgiving. When i arrived around 3 there was a line out the door...not really a surprise. However after waiting 5 min I began hearing rumors there out of pumpkin pie. I was not to worried I had called ahead and ordered one. Now you would think all pre ordered pies would be put aside to fill these orders but NO I get inside and there saying no pumpkin pies....I ask what about pre orders...all I get is we sold 500 pies today so we are out. Yes a preordered pie must not mean anything here so I say enjoy the pies but do not put any stock in preorders like a normal bakery would like to have because they...
