If you stay at the Holiday Inn Resort hotel, you MUST make sure you have a meal in-house. My family and I ate here our first night and were incredibly impressed. If you can manage to find parking nearby, or are able to get permission to park here from the hotel (I wouldn't know if they do that or not), do it.
Prices were average to slightly higher of what I usually expected from beachside food places. Especially one in a hotel. Sometimes they can be absurdly priced. Some items are at the money-throwing spectrum, but others were average. Usually with prices like those, the quality can be highly questionable. Not this restaurant. Whoever made the food for us really cares about what their customers eat.
Fries were your typical beachside kind - just crispy enough on the outside, and golden, and fluffy inside. GREAT with the ranch dressing.
I ordered the chicken caesar wrap, but subbed for ranch dressing instead. Fat wrap! And the chicken was seasoned wonderfully. I like more lettuce in my wraps, but they had enough in there that usually anyone else would put. Husband had the Monterey chicken, I think, (had BBQ sauce on it) and he loved his meal, too. He had a side caesar salad, and I tried the salad to see what kind of sauce I was missing on my wrap, because some can be very vinegary, but it was actually really good! Were I not a ranch snob, I would have actually left the caesar dressing on my wrap.
Kids meals were around $5, but our daughters meal was free with an adult purchase! My husband told me about it later, so I'm not sure if that was a special for the evening, or that's all the time. Either way, not something I was expecting from this hotel much less a vacation spot.
Decent view of the ocean, but you overlook the pool area, which is really nice in itself. And they have beautiful gardening to kind of separate the two areas. Inside seating seemed really nice as well.
With our stay at the hotel we received a voucher for 1 free drink. I wish I could have tried a bar drink, but currently pregnant. I'm sure the drinks would have been good as well, so hopefully someone else can rate for that. My husband used the voucher for a beer.
I was very full after my one-half of the wrap and I actually made myself attempt to eat the other half because it was so good and I didn't want to waste it! Even the price was great! Roughly $10. My husband and I agreed that we will be eating at this hotel at least once more before our vacation is over. Which we never eat at the same place twice on vacation unless we're super impressed. Much less at the hotel we're staying in!
If we ever visit Daytona Beach again, we will look heavily at staying at this hotel once more because we were impressed by the food, the nice seating area, service was really great, and also the hotel is really nice even though they are undergoing construction/remodeling at the...
Read morePicking a star rating for this place was not easy. The food is fine, but the experience definitely is not. Some of the staff were great, some were very hard to deal with.
TL;DR: The food service closed at 9 PM which is much too early, though they were able to accommodate us arriving at 8:50. Breakfast on another day had a rather difficult waiter that just ruined the experience.
I ate here twice in a number of days at the hotel. (I have written a full review on the hotel itself which includes some of these details.)
The first time was for dinner, when came down to the hotel at 8:50 PM one night for dinner after a long day; we didn't want to go out and we'd already had stadium food for lunch, so pizza was a no-go. When we arrived down at H2O, they told us that the kitchen was way behind and that they were closing at 9 PM. (Google currently says they are open until 10 PM, which needs a correction.)
Immediately I could not figure out why they closed so early; lots of people come back late during their vacation and want to grab a bite before bed.
However, they did accommodate us best they could. They hesitated a bit, so we tried to make their jobs easy and just ordered four burgers, all the same. The food took a while, but we expected this due to being "way behind". Once it arrived, everything was tasty and all was well.
Another day, our group of 5 came down for breakfast shortly after opening in the morning. The table had been recently used and one cutlery-wrapping napkin was left behind, apparently unused. Instead of replacing it, our waiter brought 4 new ones. We asked for it to be replaced (since someone could have just wiped their hands on it and left it wrapped), and the response was along the lines of, "No, it's fine, it's clean and hasn't been used." We actually had to convince him to get us a replacement.
Once he did, we asked for two coffees and five waters. He brought back three waters, a jug of coffee, and five coffee cups. It took him another two trips to get it right.
I wanted French toast, but noticed it came with nothing on top (the pancakes had an option to add blueberries). So, when ordering, I asked for blueberries to be added. The response was something like, "That's only for the pancakes. We don't do it for French toast. I don't even know what the charge would be." I persisted and was able to get some berries in a cup on the side. It was good enough, but the amount of advocating I actually had to do to get my berries gave me cold feet when it came to asking for anything else, such as whipped cream or sausages.
The food itself tasted fine, but the wait staff experience was just so far below what I would expect. Perhaps he was new, but his responses were resistant instead of saying things like, "I'll check with the kitchen and see if we can do that." It was not a...
Read moreWhat even is that? Absolutely the worst breakfast food I've ever seen. We drove all night to get here, and had our reservation started a day early because we knew it would be early morning when we arrived. The front desk concierge gave us coupons for free breakfast, but we were told they were for tomorrow, which we didn't understand. When we got settled into our rooms at about 8 am, my wife and I went down to the restaurant to order breakfast. We had 4 adults and 3 children, and we ordered the food to go, to take to our rooms. Food ordered included biscuits and gravy for the adults, and kids breakfast meals. The total was over $100. We weren't told until after we had paid, that kids eat free if you dine in. The food portions and quality were horrendous. Every other hotel offers free breakfast, and it's exactly the same food served in this restaurant. Eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are tiny, hardly any gravy, and it was very salty. Bacon was so undercooked and greasy, I could've tied it in a knot. The sausage was burned and very thin. Small portions of eggs. The potatoes would have been the best part, but they weren't washed well and I got dirt in my mouth. It was awful. After we complained, they asked if we had breakfast coupons, and we said yes, but we were told that they're for tomorrow. They said bring them, we'll redeem them now and refund our money. So we did, and they did. Nothing but high prices, bad food, and bad...
