Benny's Grill — Restaurant in Decatur

My boyfriend and I came here on a whim after visiting Phoenix Tile, we just wanted to grab a quick bite before heading back to work, and oh man I'm so glad we saw this on Google as a recommendation, we loved the food and the atmosphere. The dill infused cheese curds were to die for, lightly breaded and a side of their homemade ranch which I wanted to drink at this point because it was so good, and I'm usually not one to like ranch. My boyfriend got the chili and it was very good, not spicy, still had LOTS of flavor. (win win for me since I can't handle spicy food so I know to get it next time) My boyfriend loves spice though and said he would like some more haha We got wraps for our main course, he got the buffalo chicken wrap and I got the California wrap, both were very tasty, fresh chicken breast, the avocado was fresh as well, I also got the sweet potato fries which were to perfection, the coleslaw has a little bit more to desire but I prefer the sweet coleslaw instead of the bitter/tanginess of this one. We got water to drink which tasted just fine and they do offer lemon! Our waitress was awesome, she was very fast but still paid attention to detail and our experience was wonderful, very friendly atmosphere, love the warm tones of the wood trim and the warmer lighting, making me think of being at home enjoying a meal, it instantly put us at ease. I waited a week to think about my post. We went in party of 3 around 7 pm 8/24/23, we waited a couple minutes to be sat because ppl were going out as we were coming in so a lot of ppl at the door. The bartender sat us, we waited a good 10 minutes before I asked the bus boy if he could get our waitress as she has been by us 4-5 times and went to take orders from ppl who were sat after us. He took our drink orders, while we waited she finally asked us what we wanted to drink, told her he got our drinks for us. We waited another 15-20 minutes with out her coming back to take our order. We tried getting her attention by saying ma'am a couple times and when she finally heard, she had all kinds of attitude telling us she's the only one there and not to be rude. I'm sorry, we were trying to get your attention so we could order. We ended up leaving, don't need that kind of attitude when was asking her to take our order since by this point we'd been there for 30 minutes. Mind you she was the only waitress there but when you walk by our table without acknowledging you see us for. It wasn't that busy she had maybe 5-6 other tables, not like it was full. Needless to say we left mad and hungry and went somewhere...

Staff was nice and prompt. Food was not so nice. The house salad was just thrown on a plate and looked like it came from a bag you can get at Walmart, no cheese or anything extra on it except a cherry tomato lol. The fried sampler was slimy and flavorless, especially the parmasean wings. They tasted like bland fried chicken, no one at our table could taste the seasoning on it. The burger i ordered was cooked so that's a plus lol but it wasn't anything to bring me back there. The shrimp pasta that one of my friends ordered was rubbery and smelled like a bad diaper when we took it back with us in the to go box. Tried to feed it to the dog and he wouldn't even eat it (not trying to be mean, but that happened). I know budgets can be tight for businesses, but the entire place seemed dated. Especially with the vinyl table covers that looked like they've been around for a while. Maybe other people have different opinions than I do, but I was not impressed enough to be a repeat customer.
