What a great experience and tasty! Yesterday being hungry with 3 kids I stumbled upon this eatery place. Reality acceded all expectations and I was very pleased. Food was fresh, yummy and great quantity to calm my hunger. I took the Tenya Rice Bowl Braised Pork Chasyu, rice for the kids and miso soup to all of us. My sauce was a delight too (a little sweet but not too much). I also liked the slaw, pickled radish and cucumber. I regret not taking pictures but it’s the same as in the menu. The server/owner (regret not asking for his name) was patient, attentive and explain the whole menu. Even with 3 kids (being kids) he was being very warm and welcoming. I should also mention that food was brought fast and very nicely presented. The ambience (design and music) of the place felt good too. They also sell all sort of Japanese merchandise (cookies/candies/snacks). I didn’t try it this time. This was such a great surprise for the day (made my day) and a nice lunch break not only food wise (delicious) but also made me happy and in a good mood. I can’t wait to visit again, next time with my husband so he’ll get to enjoy it too. The kids also asked to return...
Read moreThere is likely something for everyone between rice bowls, salads, and lunch plates at this casual dine-in restaurant. The fried tofu is excellent and goes well with all offerings. Atmosphere is nice with a variety of Japanese treats and Japan-inspired decor on display.
I'd definitely come back for the fried tofu and it was a tasty stop after shopping at the nearby Petco. Radish was over-pickled but perhaps it was less fresh late in the day. The braised pork rice bowl and salad were too saucy for my taste, but perhaps we can request less sauce next time. Also not recommended for those in a rush.
This is in between fast casual and classic dine-in. Order and pay at the counter; food is brought to you. Pretty good overall-- I will be back to try out the other menu items! Same for the ice cream shop in the same plaza.
Pros: tasty Japanese fare, reasonable pricing, GREAT tofu, casual atmosphere Cons: heavy on sauces,...
Read moreMy lady and I were trying to find a place with really good dumplings - however, we stumbled across Tenya Japanese Restaurant. We came in to a nice atmosphere, clean, and very friendly. Cink was super knowledgeable about their dishes and fluidly friendly. He is welcoming and he remembers people so you will have a friend on your next visit! He even came over and helped us take a picture together with the cool designs inside. The menu may be a little limited, but as my lady once told me... "Chef Gordon Ramsey says - Offer few items at excellent quality." Tenya offers excellent-expert quality with a unique fusion of food. Highly recommend this place! Go say hi and eat some food! I had the Curry bowl and it was awesome! We ate left-overs the next day and it still tasted...
