My wife and I were out in Delafield on a Sunday and decided to stop at Giuseppe’s for dinner after reading the amazing reviews. Unfortunately, our experience didn’t come close to meeting expectations.
We chose to sit inside due to the warm weather. After receiving a menu from a young man at the counter, we seated ourselves at a table across from the register. That’s where things started to unravel.
A young woman behind the counter told us to grab our drinks from the cooler and said she’d be over shortly to take our order. Not a big deal. we’re fine with casual service. But it took about 20 minutes before she finally returned to take our order. We went with the Antipasto and a “Cheese Steak” pizza.
Roughly 15–20 minutes later, she brought over two cups of ice and a plastic container filled with lettuce, a few mushrooms and pepperoni slices, and small containers of croutons, banana peppers, and dressing, essentially a DIY salad kit. Again, not ideal, but we tried to roll with it.
Meanwhile, we watched as she handled pickup and walk-in orders, offered comps to other waiting guests, and continued taking new orders, all while we waited over 30 minutes just to receive a pre-made salad. She then told us the pizza would be another 7–8 minutes.
Eventually, more guests came in, some received their food before us, and we still hadn’t received ours. At this point, we’d been waiting for over an hour. When the pizza finally arrived, we asked why it took so long. The response: “I don’t know, I’m not the one cooking.” It felt dismissive and a bit rude.
The pizza itself was a major letdown. It was buried in an overwhelming amount of minced peppers and onions, with barely any meat. The flavor was completely unbalanced. We couldn’t even finish it. When the waitress returned and asked how it was, I explained that the pizza was far too heavy on the peppers. Her response: “Is that a bad thing?” There was no offer to remake it or make things right. Instead, she simply walked away and eventually left the restaurant altogether.
My wife then asked the kitchen staff to speak to a manager. A clearly irritated young man came out and identified himself as the manager. Rather than listening to our concern, he became defensive right away and said, “Fine! You want the pizza free? I’ll give it to you free!” That wasn’t what we were looking for. We just wanted someone to acknowledge the poor service and food quality. We told him fine, you can comp the pizza and drinks but we will leave it on the table for them. At that point, we got up from our table and walked out.
Overall, this experience felt chaotic, careless, and dismissive from start to finish. The customer service was unacceptable, and the food didn’t match the hype at all. We left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and certain that we won’t...
Read moreJust visiting Delafield and by chance came across Giuseppe's. I only eat pizza 2-3 times a year so I thought I would treat myself to some comfort food. The young man at the counter knew I was a tourist and gave me a fantastic history of the town, the local characters, and an overview of all the wonderful places to visit. I forgot his name but with that much love and knowledge, the city should elect him as the town ambassador. We ordered the veggie pizza and took a seat outside, there is limited seating inside and outside which is nice because you sit close to other folks which engages conversation. The pizza was way different than others I have enjoyed in the past. The crust is beyond thin. I was worried that the sheer weight of the toppings would snap the thin crust, it did not. The pizza was cut into well thought out squares that only required two bites to finish. It was more like enjoying tapas than gorging yourself with a giant slice. Very well thought out. All the veggies were cut so they were all cooked equally to perfection and there was no excess moisture floating on the top of the pie like most veggie pizzas. Absolute perfection. Halfway through our dinner the owner came out and introduced himself and to make certain everything was "perfect". Nathan, like the young man at the counter showed not only a passion for his craft but also the town of Delafield. When I mentioned I was visiting from the deep south he invited me to come back on Saturday for his in house bbq ribs. So expect another review from me soon! I highly recommend paying Giuseppe's not only for it's wonderful food but to spend some time with amazing people who enjoy sharing their craft in a...
Read moreWow! A hidden gem in Downtown Delafield!! The cheesy garlic bread was amazing. The portion of the order was fantastic and super cheesy. The sausage was very tasty. It didn't taste like it was just plain processed ordinary sausage that would typically be found in other pizza places. And their crust???!! Absolutely THE best crispy thin crust I have ever had. I have been looking for this quality of crust for a long time and searched many different places. Finally, it was not a dripping with grease pizza either. It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor.
The environment was very clean and friendly. Nathan, the owner, is an excellent host and chef who really focused on quality of food and customer experience. He, by far, exceeded our expectations. We will definitely be back and will spread the word on his wonderful restaurant. We were so delighted to have...
