Oh. my. goodness. I'm astonished. Gonna leave way too detailed/long a review, but that's the impression Zooks left on me. (Disclaimer: I'm not someone who "knows" or drinks coffee very much, so please take my review with a grain of salt, lol.)
After waking up from a late night I stopped in here. The staff were incredibly kind and warm, the atmosphere and vibes were immaculate, and the "Pay it Forward" board being so full really touched my heart as a veteran. I definitely plan to spend time here in non-pandemic times. Such a cozy place to be.
When I drink coffee I usually only do so for utility, which probably sounds like I'm insulting coffee shops/lovers but please hear me out haha. It's because I'm not a coffee-drinker and am sensitive to the taste that I wanted to share my thoughts.
I got an Americano, a Lucette Latte, and a lemon cranberry muffin to go.
I know drinkability is part of the point of an Americano, but never having had one before and being a bit nervous? It's so freaking good. It's as pleasant as drinking a beer, and just as palette-refreshing.
The Lucette Latte is similarly amazing. I usually go for flavored stuff to mask the strong coffee flavor (I'm a weenie, I know) but the lavender, honey, milk, and espresso flavors all peacefully coexist. Both of these lead me to believe the way Zooks does things is different and special. Other lattes I've had were still a bit of a struggle to get through with the acidity and bitterness still barging through. (Again, grain of salt, please, lol.) Not here. There's no "loud" aftertaste holding me hostage. Drinking this feels like crawling back under the covers and taking a nap.
I didn't have any apprehension about the muffin -- muffins are always delicious. We were already starting out net positive here. I heated it up at home and cut it in half.... And there's piped lemon curd stuffed in the middle???? I was only expecting lemon-flavored cake with cranberry bits but NO. Here is this extra detail, this extra bit of love and flavor in there? GAH. WHAT??? The "bite" of the muffin is so different in my-new-favorite-muffin way. Spongey and the perfect balance between dry and moist. The little crumblies on top that remain unsoggy by some magic? Like. I said aloud "What the HELL?" at first bite.
All three things together are a perfect combination. Every bite and sip is interesting and "easy" so to speak. It grabs and keeps my mindful attention in the most positive way.
I was expecting today to be a sleepy trudge fueled only by jitters with the coffee shop visit itself and meal itself being uneventful. I was not expecting to lose my s* about this. Was not expecting it to be the highlight and to set the tone of my day. I don't normally write reviews, but here we are. They (GENTLY) FORCED MY HAND, lmao.
Also, the prices are VERY fair in my opinion. I've spent more at other places and regretted it but was like "Well, I guess that's what coffee's supposed to be like and I'm just weaksauce" I'll have to leave an increased tip next time I go. So worth it.
I see a few "coming soon"s on the menu and can't wait to see how they expand. What a blessing for quality and such a good experience to be found in our small-but-growing town.
Thank you, Zooks! â€ïž
Edit: also, the drinks were both the perfect temperature upon receipt. I didn't have to wait too long for them to cool before drinking them and didn't scald my tongue even at the first tentative sip. The little sticker over the opening to keep it all in (they fill those cups UP!!!) and to keep it warm was such a nice touch. AAAAAAAH I am so...
Read moreWhen my wife and I stopped for our first time here i wanted to get a flight. I was disappointed to hear i should make a reservation. So I contacted management and told them about my situation. They apologized and had told some workers were out because of being ill and reassuring me if I make a reservation for a flight I would not regret it, so I did just that. When I returned and got my flight, noted in pictures, you can plainly see the dedication and time it took to make such a beautiful board and a tasty set of drinks. And I'll tell you right now without a doubt that the breakfast sandwich here is absolutely one of the best I have ever had in a long time... well ever. This is my favorite and I've tried lots of them from las Vegas to atlantic city in New Jersey. So now I tell you make a reservation for a flight and some breakfast you will not be let down. Thank you guys. I've returned since and will...
Read moreFinally got to try Zooks today and I was not disappointed! We got a small black coffee to try the roast, as well as two lattes (toasted mocha almond and honeybee). The black coffee was so good my husband stole most of it, even though he normally only likes coffee if it's 70% cream. The lattes were both fantastic as well! The atmosphere is wonderful, too. It's a really great place to sit and enjoy some great coffee with a good vibe. The employees were all friendly and helpful; everything about it made Zooks my new favorite coffee spot (sorry, Summermoon, I still love you but I...
