My first time here for dinner on a Monday night (6 pm-ish), and it was BUSY! Both take out and eat in, and the phone never stopped ringing. Now, I came to this area to eat sushi, but the sushi placed is no longer in business. Damn. I briefly though about the Chili's that's also right there, but I didn't want to overspend on a small sirloin w/side of steamed broccoli. Then look! China 1 to save the day. I poked my head in, and my 1st impression was....sketchy. There were no prices on the board with the entree pictures, so you order from menu at counter, limited seating, stacks of soda along the wall. Ok. I asked a customer leaving with takeout if it's any good. She said it was "delicious," so we decided to give it a shot. The place is a bit of a hole in the wall - BUT - the food was indeed delicious. The full order of Happy Family was easily enough for 2 people with huge shrimp and thick cuts of meat. Full order of hunan chicken 1-1/2 people. The chicken egg rolls were good, not too salty, and super hot and crispy straight from the fryer. However....we waited at least 50 minutes for our entrees, and at least 30 minutes for 3 egg rolls. Yes, they were super busy, but I still think that's too long. I think it's slightly overpriced as well ($2 for a small white rice is absurd; most places charge $1), and the large entrees came with a small rice each, but it wasn't enough. So.....food is very good, but is slightly overpriced, and plan at least an hour ahead of when you want to eat (at least during peak mealtimes) and order ahead so you're...
Read moreThis was my first time going to China 1,and will never go back! I placed and order at 6pm in person with an expect 25 min prep time. Returned at 6:30 and was told it would be a few more min. I took a seat and joined about a dozen others waiting for their orders. I finally got my to-go order at 7:15. Sitting at a unbussed table (dirty for at least my 45min wait) close to the register I was aware of other customers dissatisfaction with excessive delays (some as much as 1:45 hrs) the order taker was still telling everyone it was a 25 min. wait. Upon getting home with my order I became aware of how bad the evening was going the chicken was hard as a rock and totally uneditable as was the crab rangoon both my dinner and my wife's went into the garbage (pickup the next a.m.) I went to China1 the next am to express my displeasure and was told "everyone had to wait since they were shorthanded-like that made it OK I was also told that everyone's taste is different (I never said it had a bad taste) so I guess that is supposed to make overcooking food to the point of hard-as-a-rock satisfactory. The owner did absolutely nothing to rectify my dissfaction with this visit. As I said before this was my first time going to China1 and in like you only get one chance to make a first impression and they missed by a mile. I gave a 1star rating as that was the lowest possible, and the rice was good. Will...
Read moreVery very very very very expensive. 99% sure she purposely overcharged us because she took our card and immediately ran it as fast as she could before we could respond to the price. When we did respond to the price immediately, she ignored us and pretended not to hear that we were saying it's too expensive. The menu says it should of been 30$ but for some reason it came out to 36$.... At 30$ it was already expensive. To be robbed for that extra 4$ is enough to make me write this bad review and never come back again.
EDIT Changed it from 2 stars to 1 star. The fried rice tasted like burned oil and the chicken was overcooked and hard... I definately do not...
