Big Fish Seafood Market — Restaurant in Delaware

I want to share my complete disappointment with a recent catering order. Each year we host a large pool party, and BFG has been our caterer for 3 years running. We've always been happy with the service, the quality and the price.

However this year that was not the case. We spent nearly $800 and definitely did NOT get our money's worth.

To begin, there were two mezze platters that were missing the hummus. Each of the two platters were randomly put together and did not contain the same items. One had no olives or artichoke hearts. The other was overloaded with dried figs. I expected uniformity when ordering two identical items.

Next, I paid $70 for a chopped salad that was, frankly, a bowl with about $15 worth of lettuce with a handful each of tomato, cucumber, and corn. I don't mind paying for the convenience of not having to make it myself, but this was highway robbery.

The grilled vegetable panini platters (I ordered two) are always a huge hit. This year, they were not cut and were tremendously soggy. I was left trying to cut soggy sandwiches as my guests arrived.

Finally, I ordered two trays of assorted cookies. I received two trays of sugar cookies that were stacked while still hot, leaving us with a sticky sugar cookie mess. Cookies could not be separated from each other, and I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the fact that there was NO variety.

To say I'm disappointed is an absolute understatement. I don't believe I can trust BFG for catering in the future, and this is entirely disheartening. We really trusted and relied on this restaurant after years of GOOD, QUALITY food at a good VALUE. But this was certainly not that.

This is my go to restaurant when I'm in the area. I have tried many restaurants... asides from the high prices, food was not good. This seafood market has cooked meals and they all are pretty good. It's convenient to pick up other items along with uncooked seafood and sides to prepare meals at home. Since my hotel room only has a mini fridge, I need my food cooked and in smaller portion. I didn't feel like having a real meal today, and ordered the pumpkin lump crab bisque which was $9 because of the lump crabmeat. Unfortunately there wasn't a lot if lump crabmeat, and the meat was in small pieces. I was thinking "Jumbo" Lump Crabmeat, that's not the case. It tasted good and I wish there was more crabmeat though. The cream of seafood was delicious, too. I wanted a small portion of Mac and cheese but have no way to heat it up. With my pups in the car, I didn't want to wait. The lady was so nice and found one already heated up. Unfortunately, the crust was very hard and it was cooler than warm, but at least I got some Mac and cheese, not going to complain too much 😁. I ad to add some salt to the Mac and cheese. We were very happy with our catering platters, the food was delicious! We picked up the platters for a party we were having at our house. The menu choices were awesome. Ordering them over the phone was easy once I was able to reach the catering manager. ( that was a little difficult - her voicemail was full but she called me back when I called the restaurant directly) There were only 2 things a little off- i had ordered shrimp salad sliders but ended up getting 2 platters of large shrimp salad sandwiches in croissants. We made do and just cut them to make them smaller, they were delicious, and they forgot to pack the peanut sauce for the chicken satay skewers- but when I called and explained that our party had already started and we were further away from Rehoboth in Ocean View, someone graciously said they would bring the peanut sauce to us at our house! I was thrilled to experience that kind of customer service! He arrived and quickly and quietly placed the sauce next to the skewers and was gone as quickly as he came! i didn't get a chance to thank him personally- but great work! And thank u!.
