I was a little underwhelmed by my last visit to Eden. My wife made reservations on my birthday through Open Table, but the hostess clearly never read the reservation details as nobody ever acknowledged my birthday. The meal started out great with the cocktails- I had the Forbidden Fruit and my wife had the Cool as a Cucumber. Both were delicious and refreshing. Our appetizers were also great. We had lobster and crab fritters and the ceviche- both were excellent. For dinner, I ordered the Antelope steak and my wife ordered the short rib. I requested the Antelope steak medium but it came out closer to rare- purple in the middle and it was inedible- endlessly chewy to the point where you couldn't get a piece of the meat to breakdown in your mouth. The waiter was very responsive and immediately asked if I wanted to replace it or get another dish. I asked for the scallops, which took a while to prepare. In the meantime, we shared the short rib my wife ordered. This was a bone-in short rib, not de-boned like the preparation at their sister restaurant, Jam. The short rib was tasty but it was a mess to eat as you had to work to keep the bone, fat, and gristle separated from the edible food in dish. While we waited for my scallops, we planned to order another round and we put the cocktail menu on side of the table. But instead of stopping to check in and take our drink order, the waiter just grabbed the menu as he hurriedly walked by. "Guess he doesn't want us ordering drinks", my wife said. So we didn't. When the scallops arrived, they were cooked perfectly but the grits that they were served on were undercooked- probably because they were trying to rush the dish out. They had the consistency of undercooked rice. For dessert, we had the pan cookie- basically a chocolate chip cookie cooked in a pan with ice cream on top. The ice cream and sauce were delicious but the cookie was a weird powdery consistency- it didn't stay together when we cut into it- it just crumbled into tiny pieces. And, when the check came, the waiter forgot to remove the Antelope steak- simple mistake but just another miss. I definitely won't be coming back to Eden for a while, especially to celebrate anything special, which is disappointing as Eden is one of the better settings for a...
Read moreEven though I had this reservation for several weeks, we were escorted to a dining room upstairs that had nobody else in it and no tables even set up. It was as if we were eating in the attic with all these extra tables with nobody at them and just tablecloths on them, not set up with dishes or napkins, etc. I do not know why we were not seated in the main area downstairs. Although my husband was happy with his Aji tuna, he said the rice that accompanied it was hard and cold. My halibut was overcooked and was over something that was supposed to be risotto that was not a real risotto, just globby rice and had a supposed corn salsa on top, which was nothing more than a can of corn with this very spicy seasoning that was also all over the top of the halibut that I had to scrape off as I do not like spicy things. It tasted like a combination of cayenne and white pepper and did nothing more than serve as heat - no flavor at all. I believe it was all over the grilled Caesar salad I had first and I was coughing so much that my eyes were tearing while I was eating it. So when I tasted my halibut, I scraped it off of the top, but I could not scrape it off of the corn salsa where they also put it. So my son who had the mac & cheese with chicken, switched with me. I have never ever been in a restaurant where they don’t put salt in the water when they are cooking the pasta. And you would think with a cheese sauce with I believe three different cheeses in it would at least have given it some flavor, but it didn’t. You cannot ever make up for unsalted pasta. I had to add salt three times to the dish to make a palatable. It was also overcooked. That same seasoning was on top of my grandson‘s potatoes, which I happen to take one and was shocked to encounter that taste again. I told the waiter the appetizer my granddau ordered was to be a meal, but to bring it with the appetizers as she was hungry, but they brought it with the mains, which all arrived very late....
Read moreDear Mr. Capriotti!
It is with great pleasure that I write this Commendation letter on behalf of JAM Bistro, Inc. and your Cook, Mr. Dre Boone! On Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 6:15 p.m., my Harvard University colleagues visited your Restaurant, JAM Bistro, Inc. in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. They all desired to sample your pork chops. Hence, the group ordered the reasonable priced Slow Roasted Pork Chop, Buttered Squash and Roasted Brussel Sprouts. To add, they purchased Rhone wine and the JAM Collins drinks. Admittedly, the dinner and beverages were superb! More importantly, JAM Bistro provided amazing customer service and a clean, structured, and pleasant atmosphere! What stands out is the professional and personable attitude of Dre Boone. He may not recall, but the group requested to have a brief word with Dre to let him know how satisfied they were with the meal he prepared. The portions and presentation were equally awe-striking! They discerned by Dre's demeanor that he is a modest, contentious, and detailed-oriented Cook. These are leadership qualities and attributes all restaurants should strive to employ at their establishments!
As a result of the remarkable service the host, wait staff, and Mr. Boone provided, the group plans to revisit Eden/JAM Bistro, Inc. the Summer of 2022! This time, the group will bring additional colleagues who specialize in hospitality management. I feel it is worthwhile for these individuals to experience the unique service, as well as the first-rate food preparation Dre provides. Until then, I wish Eden/JAM Bistro, Inc. a prosperous Summer season! Considering that Mr. Boone personally prepares our meals, we shall see you then!
Warmest Regards,
-Dr. Darrell M. Canady, MPA, Ed.D. Secret Shopper Program,...
