They are very good, but there were some minor issues I had. I do plan on ordering again some time in the future and if I learn what I do like on the menu, this place could turn into a 5/5 very easily.
What was good: I really enjoyed their samosas. They were a good size and full of flavor. I also really like their rice. It was perfectly cooked and very well seasoned. It was easily good enough to eat on its own and did not need a curry, but did also go well with the curry. The lamb/Boti kabab masala. It was creamy and rich, had a good amount of meat and veg to the amount of sauce. The spice level. I asked for things to be spicy. I did not need to specify a level, just 'spicy' and they delivered on that. For me, it wasn't so hot that it caused tears or any other negative reaction. It was a level of heat which was very much there, but not overpowering. Some with low spice tolerance would probably struggle a lot, but if you enjoy spiciness, I think it would be satisfying.
What I didn't like as much. The bread. We got two different types, garlic naan and a paneer. They did give several slices per order so it was enough to last through the entree. However, they were bland. It tasted like they had not used salt in them. When using it to dip and eat with the curry, this wasn't noticeable. But they would be difficult to eat by themselves. Lastly, oil in the curry. I think it was a Bhuna curry and this may be purely my own preference, but this dish had been swimming in oil. The dish did still taste good. The rice and bread do a good job of absorbing excess oil, but I couldn't imagine eating it without them. I don't know if it was just this dish specifically because the other curry did not have the same issue of being overflowing with oil, but I'll probably try other options...
Read moreMe and my wife visited Star of India after a long driving trip based on the fair reviews. We both got to experience the great spices and flavors that complimented their food but our 2 stars were given for the customer service we received. We looked up the directions and it told us that the restaurant was currently open. We arrived at the restaurant and saw the Open sign lit up so when we walked in they were in the middle of a family meeting and said the restaurant would reopen at 5pm. That was our first red flag. We left and shopped for a little, returned and saw the lock on the door with the Open sign still lit up. We knocked on the door and even called the restaurant but no one responded, our second red flag. My wife was upset and decided we go to another restaurant because we felt like they didn’t want our business. I decided to give them one last attempt and when we returned to the restaurant it was finally open. Like I said, we really enjoyed the food, but we just didn’t like the customer service that was provided in regards of proper opening times. The eating environment itself was uncomfortable only because the air provided inside was almost nonexistent. Please don’t take this negative review away from the fact that the food was outstanding. We just expected a restaurant to provide excellent customer service to its...
Read moreWhy does it always seem that whenever a restaurant is ran and owned by a particular race of people that they treat Americans like they are not wanted or needed in their restaurant?
We had gone there a total of 6 times because each time we went we got the same treatment but we couldn't believe that we were really being treated this way on a consistent basis we thought maybe somebody's just having a bad day but that wasn't the case.
There is a particular dish on their menu that sounds so wonderful one day we ordered it and of course they didn't have all the ingredients for that dish so we couldn't get it. Next table over was an Indian family and they ordered the same dish that we wanted and couldn't get but they got it what's up with that???
So again we went back again we ordered that same dish and again we were told the same exact thing they didn't have all the ingredients for that dish, so sorry. Every time we want that dish we can never get it. Also we are treated like we have leprosy or something. the server's don't really want to really wait on us...
