This was my first time visiting this restaurant. After 2 days I'm still pondering on if I will return or not. My experience is 50/50 so I think I MAY give a second chance to waver me either way. Anyway, the food was OK. I ordered the smothered fried chicken, mac and cheese, and dressing. I actually asked the woman to add green beans but she didn't. Which is half of the reason why I'm giving a so so review. The woman that was serving the food did not look happy at all to be there. She did not even attempt to try to fake a smile. I felt kind of rushed to order and then like I said she did not even put everything on the plate she asked me what I wanted but was moving ahead of me. Customer service is really big I will not go somewhere because of their customer service even if the food is good. The guy there working named Ryan was nice. He had his name on his shirt. The chicken was dark meat but it was kind of dry. The dressing did not have much flavor but it was edible. The mac and cheese was good but it did not taste homemade it tasted like Velveeta Shells and cheese with a whole lot of extra Velveeta. The food was good but nothing to write home about. The wait time was a little lengthy. When I first got there they said it was 20 minutes on mac and cheese I left for about 30 minutes and came back and was in line for probably 15 minutes but that wasn't too bad not really complaining about that. Like I said I may try it one more time a different entree different sides and see how that goes.

Saw a post on FB about this place and hopes were high since I was pregnant and craving greens. Went about a month ago and forgot to post a review. The service was poor. My first time in and there was no welcome after I entered and the guy behind the counter just stared at me while I looked over the offerings and tried to figure out what came with the meal. Personally felt food was overpriced for the serving size as I spent $20 and feel the server was skimpy with the portion. I got the baked chicken, greens and sweet potatoes with a roll. The best thing was the baked chicken while the greens weren’t for me and the sweet potatoes were tooo sweet.

So decided too try 2 sides 1st before paying for an entire meal. Glad I followed my 1st mind. Ordered an large Mac and cheese and large greens. I don't know if they know what large sizes are. The greens had no flavor and looked like algae from a fish tank..the Mac and cheese was dry. The atmosphere is that place is horrible!! It's like sweetie pies closed down and they just opened up..no kind of remodel no kind of welcoming vibe or feel when you walk in there. The dine in area is dark and just dirty. Glad I only spend 10 for 2 extra small sides..never ever again!!!

I'm not here to clown this business, but I need to speak on my experience. Stopped in today because I've been wanting to try Sonja's for well over year, but couldn't make it there before today. Two men were behind the counter, and one of them was sitting down right by the register watching tv. Ok fine, do your thing. Can I at least get a greeting from somebody? A hello, I'll be right with you? Not so much as a smile.. There were only 2 other people waiting to complete their orders so them being too busy was not the reason for being ignored. I was like 3 ft away, facing the man serving food.

While I waited for a minute to be acknowledged and served, I zoomed in on each tray of food behind the window and it was apparent all of it had been sitting out for quite some time. Long enough for a heavy film to develop on top of the meats and most of the sides. The fried chicken looked past it's prime. Rib tips looked dry, although they may not have been. The only thing that looked appealing or safe were the green beans and cabbage.

I tried to talk myself into giving them a try but couldn't move forward after seeing how the food looked sitting there in those pans. I'm not sure if this is normal for them or not. Everything might be delicious, but presentation and...

NOTE: The only reason they got even one star is bcz I couldn't post this comment without one. Otherwise they would have gotten NO STARS at all!! Feb being black history month, I decided to try a "soul food" restaurant for take-out, rather than my usual fast-food chicken, burger or chinese restaurant. I saw Son Ja's had several website listings, so I clicked on about 8-10 of them, trying to locate their menu items & prices. After 30-40 minutes or so, I gave up looking for what to order for my family dinner. Since the links did list the phone number, I called to get an idea of what they had. The background noise on the other end was so loud that the lady who answered the phone kept asking me to repeat myself. When she finally realized I was asking what was on their menu and what are the prices, her only (abrupt) answer was "SOUL FOOD!". I was taken aback, to the point that I didn't even want to continue the conversation. Therefore, I'll never know if they serve foods like ox tails, pig feet, tails, ears, tripe, frog legs, catfish, chitterlings, ham hocks, turkey legs, wings, necks, tails & dressing. I''ll just take my...
