My husband and I are vegetarians, and finding something to eat while traveling that fits our diet and is delicious is usually challenging. I picked this restaurant based on the positive reviews I read using Google Maps. It's located at a truck stop that appears to be under renovation. We arrived before noon, and saw they were doing a brisk takeout business. We took a seat at a table and the woman who'd been working the register, (who later introduced herself as Ms. Rose, the manager) came to take our order. She was apologetic and explained that they were short-staffed, and as a consequence had reduced the menu offerings to three. We aren't familiar with Indian food, so we asked her to describe them, which she graciously did. We both chose Aloo Shimla Mirch -- a curry of stewed potatoes and green bell pepper. In the meantime, her uncle, the owner, arrived, and he too was apologetic for the staffing challenge and the limited menu. He brought our meal to us -- a large dinner plate decorated with sliced red onion, sliced carrot, and sliced jalapeno along with a generous portion of fluffy basmati rice. There were four bowls: one filled with a spicy blended sauce; one with stewed potato and pepper; one with a yogurt-based sauce; and one with a traditional dessert of roasted vermicelli noodles in a creamy-looking sauce. We asked the owner how to go about eating it, and he graciously instructed us, then left us to our meal. We were immediately impressed. The flavors were exciting and absolutely delicious. What a treat for us it was! At the owner's suggestion we had a chai beverage (minus the milk) afterwards. He served it freshly made, hot off the stove. It was like no other chai I'd ever had. The flavors were complex and rich, almost like an espresso, only better. We took sips of chai followed by nibbles of a traditional, lacey-looking sweetmeat -- a perfect way to end the meal. We give this restaurant a full five stars. Management is attentive and courteous. Food is excellent. Dining area is clean, and though there is a lack of decor, what the experience lacks in "atmosphere" is more than made up for by a truly...
Read moreOfficially the best Indian food I've ever eaten. Traveling cross country I made a stop in Deming, NM. Amongst all of the Mexican restaurants I landed on this Punjabi Indian restaurant. Decided to go with something a little different and wow was I blown away with the food! Don't let the outside fool you, this place is a true hidden gem. This is truly authentic Indian food complete with fresh made naan to order and thali dishes! If I ever find myself in Deming again I'll definitely return, and will also take some food to-go!!!! Btw they have sit down or buffet as an option. The owner let us know about his plans to grow. Good luck!
Don't question...
Read moreTHIS IS AN AMAZING RESTAURANT!!! My husband and I frequently eat Indian food and cook it at home. This may be the best I have ever eaten, including travel to India. The Naan is delicious, like nothing I have tasted before. The waitstaff is kind and thoughtful. It is in a gas station, but that is part of the charm. After eating lunch in the restaurant, we took "take out" for dinner because we wanted to keep eating it! We had the buffet for lunch and everything was good, including the rice and dessert. I would detour to Deming to eat here again. Not...
