LA PARRILLA RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Deming

🥇🏆🥇 for FANTASTIC authentic New Mexican red chili! Whenever we pass through New Mexico, one of our top items of business is to find the best red chili sauce we can and we got lucky. La Parrilla was our third restaurant in Deming and it’s true—third time’s the charm! The wife and I ate here two days in a row, the food was so good. We kept it simple so the red chili sauce could really shine—Cheese enchiladas, beef enchiladas, chili rellenos and chicken enchiladas. Lightly sweet and milky Horchata to balance the heat. And tres leches cake because Delicious! The salsas are also fantastic—a red with blackened bits from roasting the peppers, a green that my wife said was made from tomatillos and cilantro, among other things—both had great flavor. The heat level is substantial here but don’t let it deter you—you won’t ever forget the fantastic flavors and delightful dining experience. La Parrillas is a charming family-run establishment, a very nice environment to spend an hour or two with people you like. We were blessed enough to meet Chef (Mom) Mony, Jack of all Trades (Dad) Filipe and charming (son) server/chef-in-training Julian. There are many Mexican restaurants in this town but once we had food this good we lost the urge to try any other places...

Driving west from El Paso to Phoenix, we stopped at a random gas station. Then as an afterthought, drove to McDonalds for a coffee. It was 1pm and lunchtime but we were planning to skip lunch in favour of a nice big dinner.

In the drive-thru line at McD, I noticed a small understated place with just a small sign showing it to be a Mexican Restaurant.

Something called us to it and we skipped coffee. O boy, glad we are to have done it 😊

Mr Philippe is the perfect host. PERFECT. Great smile and positive attitude.

Accommodating for our menu requests (1 is a vegan, other prefers all vegetables and lives eggs, light on cheese..), serving us fresh hot food with a smile, Philippe ensured we were well cared for.

Menu is not fancy (a good thing). Prices are unbelievably low when I compare with any city. Ingredients are fresh and flavourful. Cooking is all done with love.

As we were headed home from Cloudcraft NM to Tucson Az, we stopped in Demming for an early dinner. My son found La Parrilla on GPS.

Oh man, oh man it was delicious. We were seven of us who ate there. My wife had red menudo, my daughter-in-law carne desebrada (shredded beef) tacos, my son had a steak dish, I had chilaquiles (yes chilaquiles in the afternoon) and the kids chose their own dishes. We all liked our dishes very well.

I told the server that we liked the food very much. I told him I would give a rating from 1 through 10, a…my wife answered for me and yell out “an 11”! I was going to say a nine only because I consider a ten if home cooked. I agree with my wife, it was very good. Their fruit drinks are excellent and so are the green and the red chile. Thank you La Parrilla, I recommended it...
