I loved my first and second visits here, the atmosphere is lovely and they allow dogs on the outside covered patio. They even brought my dog a bowl of water on a warm day! They have a lot of food and drink options. All the prices are more than reasonable. There are plenty of tables inside, and I saw some people working remotely, couples on dates, retirees enjoying the morning, young parents with toddlers, and even some marathon bikers. This place really draws a crowd! I really loved the sandwich. My coffee was freshly brewed from the self-serve station. They have art on the walls, WiFi, coffee beans for sale etc. I sat outside on the patio and watched it start to drizzle under the cover of the roof. There were 3 other people with dogs and we chatted a bit. Great community!
The only reason for a small deduction in stars is because the employees seemed to be prioritizing the drive-through and online orders. When I walked in there were two gentleman in line in front of me who had not yet been attended. I wasn’t greeted when entering, nor were the people behind me. No one acknowledged the long wait. We were waiting so long to put in a simple brewed coffee order that I pulled out a chair and sat down in line. Then it turns out the coffee is a self-serve station anyway 🤷♀️ It seemed odd that such a quaint, well-stocked coffee and sandwich place would not strive for top customer-facing service. The next day I decided to try the drive-through and it was really fast. So maybe they don’t really want customers inside? Anyway there is free WiFi and...
Read morePresently, I have only TWO absolute favorite coffee shops here in north central Texas. One of them is in downtown Wylie and the other one is in downtown Denison. I refuse to step foot in those chain store hack coffee shops that begin with the letter "S". Rather, I search out those wonderful "mom and pop" coffee shops that are much more inviting with much, much better products...and besides, I believe in supporting the locally owned independent stores as much as possible. CJ's, which used to be "Country Java" is in downtown Denison a few doors down from the historical Rialto Theater. When the weather is good, you can sit outside underneath the covered patio, relax and watch life slowly go by on Main Street, or go inside and sit in the fun and comfortable atmosphere. They have a drive-up "to go" window. If you have to use the restroom, it's outside just past the drive-up window. The restroom is kept very clean. They have an excellent choice of coffees, teas, smoothies, and my favorite: Hot chocolate. You can order from their impressive menu of food that's listed on the chalk board on the wall behind the counter. Their salads, soups and sandwiches are fresh made and very tasty. Their desserts are very good, too. The staff is very friendly and sincerely glad to see you. I absolutely love this place and go there every chance I get. Just wished they'd stay open later in...
Read moreUpdate: Went back yesterday and was given one that was liquid so I asked her to remake it. The remake she gave me was like a slushy so I called and asked to speak to the manager. There was a lady who got on the phone and asked me to bring it in and she would remake it and refund me. I said I didn’t want a refund I just wanted my drink made correctly. The consistency should be like a shake not a slushy. That particular lady made the best one I’ve had yet. I hope the manager sees this and has this young lady teach all the workers how to make one. I never finish a 32 ounce mocha pro, but I did that one it was that good. I wish I caught her name as I would request her make it every time. It was 10/10.
I absolutely love CJ’s in Sherman, but this one just can’t make a Mocha Pro correctly. Tastes like I’m drinking blended ice with coffee poured in it. Don’t taste any banana or peanut butter. This is the issue every time I go to this location which isn’t often. I think maybe they got it figured out but nope. Sherman needs to teach them how to make blended drinks because they haven’t got it figured out yet. If you like blended ice and coffee go here. If you want a mocha pro made right go to Sherman. The one at Gateway has the same issue. I’ll just keep driving out of my way to go to the Sherman location as I’ve pointed this issue out before and it seems like nothing...
