So first off, I know about the Sriracha shortage, but I should not have to fight and do the most to get some on a to go order. I called and ordered my pho over the phone, asked for chili paste and Sriracha. The person on the phone said no problem. I came to pick my food up and went to my car, checked it out because these places have a tendency to not fully listen to orders correctly. Just like I suspected there was chili paste and hoisen sauce mixed with a tiny bit of Sriracha. I hate hoisen sauce so couldn't use it if I wanted . So I get out my car go back inside a guy greeted me, I asked for Sriracha, and explained I asked for it over the phone. He goes by register and pulls out a little cup and its hoisen sauce, I say no, not hoisen I just want Sriracha, I told him I do not like hoisen sauce. He says ok goes to the back comes back out with a little cup of chili paste and walks off. Ummm at this point Im highly irritated because I eat pho alot and know the difference between chili paste and Sriracha. So not only you treating me like Im dumb, you keep blatantly offering things I didnt ask for. I cant say its a language barrier because chili paste and Sriracha dont even sound similar so I know hevwas trying to play games. So what I did was go to a table grab a few napkins dump out the chili paste and fill my cup up with Sriracha that is in the table. The workers all cone out mumbling and watching as I do it. Oh well, If you guys would listen we wouldn't be here. I just dont understand the issue with takeout orders being blatantly ignored when it comes to Sriracha. Iam still a paying customer rather I eat there or not. Its not fair that if you dine in you have the whole bottle in the table and take out you have to basically take some. Its backwards as hell. If anything I'd think theyd be more happy considering Im eating at home and not there, less dishes to clean etc. Im giving two stars because the food was good not gonna lie, but I had a bad experience getting the food. Just extra...
Read moreMore like a 4.5. I was in my hotel and wanted Dinner.. But not something too filling, so I looked for pho. Saw a couple reviews proclaiming the best Pho in the US. Now, normally, I don't pay any mind, but there were a number of reviews from Vietnamese people claiming how good it was... So I had to see for myself.
I ordered my usual. Goi cuon (spring rolls), Pho tai with the meat on the side and a side of hanh tran in nuoc beo (Green onion in fatty water).
First came out the spring rolls. Two very nice sized rolls came out and you could see the huge shrimps and pieces of pork they give you. Mind you, a lot of restaurants skimp put on the meat, Pho duy did not. The peanut sauce was good... Nothing extraordinary, but very tasty nonetheless.
Next up was my pho. Out came my steaming medium bowl. As many mentioned the portion size is larger here. They got my order perfectly. I sampled the broth and it was a little sweeter than I was used to, but still very good. It wasn't overly greasy.. A very clean broth. My only suggestion would be less noodles and a little more meat.
Bonus points for giving me plenty of green onions. Again, some restaurants will be skimpy with this for some reason.
In conclusion, definitely worth visiting in Denver. I won't say the best... But one of the better Phos in the US. Top 5% in my opinion.. And I'm...
Read moreThe servers here seem uninterested in earning tips, even though I've overheard them gossiping about customers who don't leave what they consider an appropriate amount.
I had to flag down three different servers before anyone acknowledged that I was ready to order. Finally, about 10 minutes after our initial arrival, our server approached us with a disinterested "you ready?" as if he had just clocked in and wasn't informed about anything. He took our order in such a way that we had little confidence it was recorded correctly. When he brought the order out to us, one entree was missing. There were only three of us, and we ordered only three items.
As for the food quality, it's mediocre now. It used to be great a few years ago. The Bun Bo Hue is still quite good, probably in the top 5 in the state, but the Phở? The dish that the restaurant is named after, Phở Duy, is just average. It tastes like a random recipe found on page 20 of a Google search.
One more thing: we were the only Vietnamese people there. My dad always says, "if you're the only Vietnamese eating at a Vietnamese restaurant, walk out." I should have heeded...
