For the last decade our friends host a Dim Sum gathering on New Years. The last three we attended at Star Kitchen went like this: 2 years ago the bill averaged $24 per person, last year it was $30 per person, this year $60 per person. Not making this up. So what happened? Do your homework on the wait line to get in and the computer login in the lobby. A real landmine if you don't know what you are doing. Our host navigated and our party was actually first in at 10am when seating began. We were a party of 24, two tables of 12. Why do I say that? Actually no reason because it should be no reason at all. But maybe it was a problem for them. If I am not mistaken a set menu of items is standard for no frills Dim Sum. As you eat they replace any item that was depleted by the table. No problem. Historically that always equated to $24 - $30 per person as stated above. Besides this type of auto replace for standard items, they do wheel by carts with upsell items, bbq ribs, calamari, and who knows. I observed we waved off these carts every time they came by, both tables, I saw the host and our table raise a hand to indicate no. Were they put off by this? Should they be? After what they deemed as enough is enough they began pressuring us to leave. Pulling off uneaten items, clearing sauces, reducing our tables to nearly cleaned off and verbally telling us how busy they were. The very second, and I mean actual second some of us stood up, they smiled and were syrupy with the Oh Thank Yous and Oh Happy New Year. Then the host saw the bill and quickly saw the average per person doubled, actually doubled from last year. Host was very upset that all of us were getting gouged for what? Lingering? Not accepting the upsell items? When the host confronted the cashier/host desk they literally, and I mean literally brushed his concern away and said, very busy, very busy, pay bill please. No discussion, no answer why we were charged double from last year. My suggestion? Never go there. Ever. If this is your go to place fine, but...

We are visiting Denver and went to Star Kitchen for authentic dim sum this morning. I have to say we will not come back because we got yelled at by the first waitress we talked to. We are always fine with not getting good service at restaurants, like we had orders that were not placed until 40 min later and we also received food that was not what we ordered. We never complained to the managers or give negative reviews online because we don’t think it is easy to be service worker and accidental mistakes should be forgiven. But this time it is not accidental. This waitress deliberately chose to yell at us for her mistake: she put items on our table before we said we wanted them. I decided to take some but not all and asked her to put one back. She didn’t acknowledge my request at all - she didn’t say anything, she didn’t nod, she didn’t even look at me. She was stamping the order paper the whole time, which concerned me more because I didn’t want her to stamp the item I didn’t want. So I repeated my request twice. That finally caught her attention, but she yelled at me saying I should calm down. I have no idea where that came from, I didn’t even raise my voice or anything, simply said we didn’t want that item. But she yelled in Chinese, then in English. This is totally unacceptable. We still left a nice tip because the other waitresses/waiters were fine and we want them to be paid for their work. I am leaving this review here, hoping someone at the restaurant can see it. And if you do, please do not give any part of my tip to the waitress that did the shrimp dumping and siu mai cart this morning. I think you should be able to find my check...
Read moreThis USED to be my favorite place. Tonight we had went for my birthday dinner like I do every year.
We placed our order with the waiter and when our food came out, everything LOOKED like it was hot and steaming. But when we got into it, it was not even really warm.
One of the dishes we got was seafood with tofu. The mushroom in it was sour. The tofu was sour. So the served is spoiled food.
The second dish we got was crispy pan fried flounder. When we got done with the top side of the fish, we was flipping it over to the opposite side that have been in the sauce. When we flipped it, we saw a DEAD FLY in the sauce. We informed the waiter we had, and he told us, that the food we ordered is going to attract flies and that they would be in our food.
Like why would you say that to paying customers when the FLY HAD BEEN in our food. It’s dead in the sauce that’s on the bottom of the plate.
Our 3rd dish we had ordered was the clam in black beans. Why did the clams tasted a little sour and very sandy and fishy. Yet again, another spoiled dish being brought out to us.
When we had also asked our waiter for some spoons and napkins, he made it seem like he had a problem with it. When he had came back with the spoons and napkins he threw in onto the table!!!!
I’m sad to say, this will be my last time having a birthday dinner here and this is no longer my go to place at all. For dim sum and for dinner.
It just been disappointment after disappointment time...
