I'm a regular at Rome's, in that I've gone there 10 to 15 times a year for the past five years or so. I've generally had a good experience, and I will probably go back again. (It is our favorite spot for "boy's nights" on Fridays and MLB Opening Day, coming up soon.)
Almost every time I've ever gone, I always get the same thing: wings. This weekend, I decided to change it up and ordered the fish sandwich, with extra tartar sauce.
Turns out I wasn't clear and the waitress brought me a tuna fish sandwich (though it seems they would wonder about tartar sauce with a tuna sandwich, right?) She was a nice waitress, very attentive and quick. And I was feeling awkward, not wanting to be a nuisance on a very busy Friday night. She said she'd go put the other order in, but left the "wrong" order with me. I took a bite of fries because I was starving. Then I took a bite of tuna because I was curious. It tasted good. I flagged her down and told her not to worry about it. I didn't want tuna, but now that I had it, I'd eat it.
I had the sandwich with one pint of Stella. I took my time and ate it slowly, finishing in about 20 minutes. I then went outside with my friends while they had a smoke. After we got back, it was still busy, and it took the waitress a bit to get back to us for another round. I ordered a tall Bud Light. It came to me about five minutes later. At this point, it was probably about 15 or 20 minutes since I finished the sandwich.
But before I could even take a drink of beer, I became incredibly dizzy. I didn't want to say anything to my friends, so I quickly excused myself and headed toward the bathroom. Seeing the back door open and feeling very woozy at this point, I headed straight outside and found my way (barely) to my car, where I collapsed.
After about ten minutes, I thought I might be feeling better and got out of my car to talk to my friends, who had come looking for me. Two minutes later, I puked up everything. Violently.
I'm not saying it was food poison, but... I think it was food poison. At any rate, I immediately felt better (seriously, the correlation between that sandwich and my sickness was incredible) and eventually went back inside to nurse a big water. (And, later, even the rest of my beer.) But I did pull the waitress aside while she was with a manager and told them about my experience. They thanked me and apologized, which I appreciated. They said they would watch out for the tuna.
I received my bill a little later. They'd "discounted" my spoiled sandwich! They gave it to me for 50 percent off!
Like I said, I'll probably return to Rome's again. I may never eat anything but wings. But I'll never forget how they gave me food poisoning and then made me only pay for half the sandwich that...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere are amazing things about this bar. Feel free to list them yourself. If Amanda isnāt on the top of every list you make, you have made a mistake. She is the understatement of the year if you call her special.
P.S. I have recently returned to the bar Romeās Saloon. Let me tell you - This place has stepped it up to an entirely new level. With Alexa and Lindsey behind the bar, Iād bet my life savings that there isnāt a better starting lineup. This is McGuire/Canseco levels of elite service. If you are reading this from any other establishment, walk out on your tab and get over here. Denverās best.
P.P.S. Still here, major update. Learning a lot about the ins and out of this establishment. Morning crew, 1 star⦠potential for less. Night crew, give them an award for being the absolute greatest humans on earth. 17/5 stars.
P.P.P.S. Iām currently in Manhattan, Kansas. I find myself judging the security in every place I walk into. I donāt feel safe without Matt. Basically, if Iām not at Romeās, I wish I was at Romeās.
P.P.P.P.S I have spent time away from my family, traveling to far off places in the Midwest. Yet, as my plane landed back in Denver, my first choice wasnāt to go straight home⦠Actually, if āhomeā truly is where your heart is;, then I did, in fact, go home. Iām back at the locally owned and run business known as Romeās Saloon. My plane landed and my plan of treating my hard working wife to world class wings to go couldnāt possibly be going better. Before I could even finish my standard 5lb beer and 1oz Irish whiskey, delivered by the most premium staff in America, my perfectly packed food was expertly prepared and ready for me to treat my family and myself to a night at home. The kitchen staff is the unsung hero of this place. What they are accomplishing here canāt be understated. Moving David to a role behind the scenes, although difficult for me to not see him regularly, was the correct move. Obviously - Mistakes donāt exist in the Romes universe. I will eventually stop being surprised when they go beyond what is expected. 18/10, zero notes. Google needs to add an option for more stars, if only for this particular...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent August 12 around 9pm. Positive our waitress a tall white girl (sorry didnt get name) was nice and attentive, the wings smelled good and person I was with said tasted great. Negatives..the bartender (some young brunette) was too busy flirting with her regulars so I waited over 25 minutes for a basic whiskey sour (wasn't even 15ppl in the building at time)and is the first time I've had whiskey sour with...no alcohol my guess because she was too busy flirting she didnt realize she didnt add the Tennessee honey whiskey, it's my go to drink and 1 or 2 ounces (depending on what they use) doesn't just disappear so I drank a glass of sour and paid $6, definitely a let down but I knew right then this place didn't deserve another dollar from this veteran. Oh and was spilling all over cause bartender overpoured. Pool table area sucked, the felt is really starting to ware, the cueball had chunks chipped out of it and when I asked if they had an actual ball it seemed like a slight, and they had tables way too close i hit my knuckle once on a table that was barwly a foot from the pool table major inconvenience having it so poorly organized. The owner/manager was there whole time never came to talk to us never acknowledged issues at his bar was too busy sitting at the bar or every once a while going around and doing a little cleanup. Seems his staff needs more training but looking around looks like owner prefers arm candy girls over ones who can properly work a "saloon". Id go back for wing and the nice waitress...
