I arrived at Saucy Southern with high expectations. After all, this is Denver, a city known for its vibrant food scene. But as soon as I took a bite of their wings, I knew I was in for something special. These weren't just any wings. No, these were wings with personality. Wings with soul. The first thing I noticed was the texture. The skin was crispy and crackly, giving way to juicy, succulent meat that practically fell off the bone. But it wasn't just the texture that impressed me. It was the flavor. Oh, the flavor. Saucy Southern's wings were coated in a perfect balance of spices and sauce, each bite exploding with a blend of heat and sweetness that left my taste buds begging for more. It was like a flavor symphony in my mouth. But what really set these wings apart was the attention to detail. Every element was perfectly executed, from the seasoning to the cooking technique. These wings were crafted with care and expertise, a true labor of love. Overall, I have to say that Saucy Southern exceeded my expectations. These wings were not just magnificent, they were downright addictive. I found myself going back for more, unable to resist the siren call of their perfect blend of flavors and textures. If you're in Denver and looking for a taste of true Southern hospitality, look no further than Saucy Southern.

Overall Rating and is it worth a visit: 8 to 8.25/10 and Yes. Sitting right in the heart of Denver University, you walk in and are immediately greeted by a friendly staff. You order at the counter, with 3 options for combo plates or you can grab individual meats and sides. As a heads up, they don’t actually smoke things here, everything is in fact grilled. That said, they do a good job with it and are consistent with their grilling technique across all of their meats. Since they don’t smoke anything, there is no real BBQ smell to speak of inside of the restaurant, but they offer a laid back, clean environment with a nice offering of quality options at a reasonable price, with all meals served in to go containers. Also, a special shoutout to Darrian who was working today and gave us great customer service and as an added bonus, he makes the banana pudding which I’d recommend getting as well. Another thing to note is that they don’t have a liquor license, so only bottled and fountain drinks available, in addition to sweet tea. No brisket here either, but they supplement that with having catfish and shrimp as a southern replacement. Would go back again if I’m in the area, especially for some of the shrimp. My pic isn’t the best, but to be honest, it was the third plate when I remembered to get a photo. The food is Hot, Flavorful, and sufficiently proportioned. Darian (I hope I spelled it correctly) was a pleasure! He’s charismatic, attentive, and asks great questions to make the most appropriate recommendations. My dad (visiting from Atlanta) and I tried it and enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and the patience given to newbies with no idea of the menu. If all the employees are as enthusiastic as Darian, then this place will definitely surpass any other establishment in the area! Our only concern was how salty the string beans were. Other than than, if they offered a veggie plate with a cornbread muffin, that would be amazing! (Add cabbage or mixed greens- YUM)😋 Do yourself a favor and dine here! The Denver food scene has been bland, imo, but Saucy Southern (and a place called Nee Orleans Cajun Creations near 25 and Broadway) are waking up tastebuds! Thanks- my faith has been renewed in Denver restaurants. We ordered two-meat dinner to go. (Pictured) Oh yeah, the wings, 💋, cooked to perfection! Parking was a challenge. We parked on E Josephine and walked around. It’s near U of D, so be prepared to search for parking.

I recently visited Saucy Southern Barbecue and Cuisine and treated myself to the Three Plate Meat. The lineup included catfish, barbecue ribs, and hotlink, and I added a single Sweet Chili Wing to complement the feast. The wing paired beautifully with their Teriyaki Parmesan, creating a dynamic duo of sweet, spicy, and savory notes that kept my taste buds excited throughout the meal.

Sides are where this place really shines for me. I went with grilled corn, which arrived hot and lightly charred, delivering a pleasant smoky sweetness with each bite. The Southern-styled Green Chili Mac & Cheese was another standout—creamy, zesty, and with just the right amount of kick from the green chilies. It balanced the richness of the meats without overpowering them, making each forkful feel indulgent yet well-rounded.

As for the entrees, the catfish was a standout—crispy on the outside with a tender, flavorful interior, and seasoned just right to let the natural fish flavor shine through. The barbecue ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, with a glaze that had a nice caramelized bite and a depth of smokiness that spoke to thoughtful pit-work. The hotlink provided a hearty, peppery punch that embodied classic barbecue comfort. The portions felt generous, and there was a satisfying variety in textures—from crunchy wing skin to juicy meat, to creamy, cheesy mac.

What makes this place special for me is the consistent comfort-food feeling it delivers. I come here with the anticipation of a big, satisfying meal, and I’m never disappointed. It’s my “big girl” meal—my go-to whenever I’m craving something a bit more indulgent and comforting. The service, too, has always been friendly and attentive, with staff who seem genuinely enthusiastic about the dishes they serve.

If you’re in the mood for a hearty barbecue spread that doesn’t skimp on flavor or variety, Saucy Southern Barbecue and Cuisine is a solid pick. The balance of smoky, spicy, and savory flavors, paired with indulgent sides like the Green Chili Mac & Cheese, makes for a truly satisfying dining experience. I’m already looking forward to my next visit and another opportunity to savor this...

We were really excited to try this place but it was just a rough experience overall.

Worst part: We ordered online and got a text at 12:20pm saying our food was ready. I walked in about 5 minutes later to pick up the order, except it wasn't ready. Also, they didn't have a few of the items we ordered available that day. We adjusted the order and they said it would be about 10 more minutes. We finally got our food about 40 minutes later, about 1:05pm. Because of the delay, I was late for a phone meeting and my son was late for his naptime.

Best part: The staff was super friendly. It was clear they were sorry about the delay and they worked hard to try and make up for it; they gave us 2 free fountain drinks, an extra side order, and a 20% off coupon for next time. I really appreciated their efforts.

Overall, the food was alright - but it wasn't worth the 40 minute delay even with the extras. The ribs were alright but not especially tender or smoky like I'm used to in TX BBQ. The wings were also alright, but one order didn't come with any of the sauce we requested. The hot link was probably the best thing we had, it was solid. I did appreciate the chargrill flavor on the meats though, it reminded me of a backyard family BBQ. One of the items that delayed us most was apparently the fried okra, but in the end it was tough, kinda dry, and un-seasoned. The other sides were fine.

I just can't see us going back despite the kindness of the workers. Maybe if it were half the price and a quarter of...
