If you're a "meat eater" with a vegan or vegetarian partner, congratulations, you've found your new favorite Mexican restaurant!
If you don't have any dietary restrictions, you'll be quite satisfied! It's a solid Mexican spot on its own, but with the added benefit of having accommodating options.
After perusing Yelp, maps, and some local blogs I was in search of a Mexican restaurant that my vegan partner and I could enjoy together. Tarascos showed up quite a few times, the only downside was it was 30+ minutes away... and it was well worth it.
They have an expansive menu that definitely has something for everyone. I had plenty of choices for "traditional" food, and went with the Quesabirria. My partner had plenty of options as a vegan, and vegetarians have even more of a selection. She went with the Enchiladas Plazeras and was very satisfied with it. We actually got an order of their vegan street taco trio to-go, which were also great (even when we re-heated some of it the next day).
Service and speed were great! We actually had a great time conversing with our waiter who was very attentive and happy to answer any questions about the menu. He had great recommendations and was just genuinely excited to give us a great experience. If you have questions about ingredients (or even what an item is in-general) they're happy to help.
Right now, it's a small but comfortable place, but they're expanding to their new dining room next-door soon. Either way, the parking is plentiful, so the other "nervous parkers" out there will be put at ease.
Overall, it's a great spot that we will be returning to soon. Whether it's "lunch with the bois" or "date night", I think it's...
Read moreLast summer, we asked our friend Bear which restaurant served the best mole in Denver. He was able to give us a quick answer, Tarasco's!
This nuevo latino cuisine is Michoacan style. Bob absolutely adores the Mole 7 Chiles Plate. I really like their carnitas chimichangas. You can order a side of mole that is about 8 oz for only $4. I usually get a side for my chimichangas, but only eat a little at the restaurant and end up taking most of it home to make our own mole concoction another evening. Bob describes the moly as very "rich and dark with deep flavors."
The restaurant is very small, and only has about eight tables. I've always seen it fairly full during dinner time.
The first time we tried to find it, we almost drove passed it. It is a small hole-in-the-wall part of a strip mall, tucked between a pot shop and a Vietnamese karaoke bar northeast of the intersection of Federal Boulevard and Virginia.
During our last visit Bob mentioned that the salsa was spicy. The waitress misheard him, and thought he said "can I get some spicy salsa." She came back with a jar of really thick salsa with a tiny spoon. She said "this is the spiciest salsa we have." I took a tiny bite, and it knocked my socks off.
They don't serve alcohol, so don't go if you're in the mood for a beer or a margarita. They have a large variety of Mexican soft drinks, horchata, and aguas frescas.
They have a sister property not too far away on Morrison Street, called Frida's, in honor of Frida Kahlo. We only tried it once, but weren't as impressed. They were painting the inside of the restaurant during dinner time, so the smell of paint thinner didn't sit the right way...
Read moreMy family was in the area so we stopped here for dinner (ordered to go). They didn’t give us the extra tortillas we paid for and they got a few things incorrect which I would’ve been more okay with if they were super busy but there weren’t too many people so there’s not really an excuse. However, the food was absolutely incredible. I was nervous about paying $13 for a chimichanga dish because usually they’re like two small fried ones that cost $8 at other places, but it was insane how huge my order was. I can put food away pretty decently for being a girl but I had to stop after 3/4 or it. The to go bowls were all packed to the top with beans and rice, everyone loved their food (someone in the reviews said they skimp and I’ll tell you now that’s not true at all), and it was so fresh and hot that it stayed warmed up until we got to the hotel that was 30 minutes away. Oh and they gave an extra serving of chips (no salsa though).
Very delicious place, but if you’re super picky about how things are made, you may wanna check the food before you leave or just go in with the mindset that a thing or two could be off/forgotten. Also it was super spicy which I could’ve done without but that’s just a personal preference. I do recommend this place for sure and will most likely be back. For those wondering about prices, it’s up there. We ordered the chimichanga, two other plates, chips and salsa, beans and rice, three street tacos, and extra tortillas (which again we didn’t receive) and it was over $60. Be prepared to spend a lot but...
