It was not my iinitial intention to leave a bad review, but the attitude of one of Chico’s employees, rather than the metal ribbon I removed from my mouth while chewing on their chicken enchilada, pushed me over the edge. We have been to this restaurant several times prepandemic and ordered take out during the pandemc and we have been happy with the service and food. However, tonight we ordered take out and while chewing on an enchilada, I hit something rather hard and pulled a small wad of ribbon-like metal out of my mouth. My wife did not want to continue eating our dinner for fear of more contaminants, so I called the restaurant and spoke with a gentleman who apologized and kindly offered to either make a new meal or refund the price of the meal. I told him I would like a refund and that I would return what was left of the dinner along with the metal fragment, and thanked him and said I understand these things can happen. I figured that was the end of it. So, I drove back to the restaurant and went to the bar, where I picked up the food and asked the bartender if he was the one I spoke with on the phone and he said he didn’t know anything about it. I told him about the metal ribbon in my food and I placed the bag with the food on the bar and showed him the metal fragment, he looked at it and said that it was from the cleaning pads they use in the kitchen. He asked what I wanted and then the man who I had spoken to on the phone appeared and I said we discussed refunding the meal. The bartender then proceeded to remove the 3 food containers from the bag and examine them and told me that we had eaten most of the chips and a lot of the other food. I told him that once I found the piece of metal in my mouth we both lost our appetite. He continued to say that I had eaten most of the food as if I was trying to con him in some way, even through he recognized the metal was from their kitchen. At this point, what was a reasonable problem with food preparation, became a confrontation with a friendly customer. After I raised my voice in anger, he backed down and agreed to refund the dinner. I really don't understand why the bartender had to provoke an...
Read moreHad a not so nice experience down at Chico's last night and wanted to share my experience. I like to take delivery orders every once in a while and tonight there was a $16+ offer for large order to be picked up at Chico's to be delivered to down by Lowe's in Morris Plains. The app tells the driver when to pick up the order, which was at 7:01. At 7:15, I was still waiting for the order and when I asked status on my order (which I had inquired about 3 times with the name on the app), the worker tells me that they "don't go by those times" and I am to continue to wait. After a couple more minutes, the worker hands me the entire order and says "this is for you for XXXX (the name on my app), here you go!", Hands me a large hot tray covered in foil (not other protection whatsoever, not sealed, no bag) and a small bag and I leave. I am all the way to the customers house (15 min) and the worker calls to tell me he gave me the wrong order and "didn't I check the order after he gave it to me?" What? I then tell the customer that I have the wrong order and to call the delivery service. I then decide to take the food BACK to Chico's so I could speak to a manager (which I did not know was him at the time of pick up). Same guy! Does NOT admit any fault whatsoever, offers no apology or compensation for over an hour of my wasted time. To boot, he said if I needed to inform anyone of my experience I was welcome to do so. I went home to file a complaint with the restaurant over only directly over email, hoping to contact the owner. I received a response stating "I am sorry for the inconvenience, I will talk with him". Come to find out this morning, the person who wrote me back was the same man, the owner of the restaurant, who lied pretended to be someone else. So along with sharing my story, I filed a complaint with the delivery service as well as filing a complaint here. Think twice before frequenting this deceitful establishment as they will admit no fault...
Read moreMy first visit to Chico's was with hopeful (not high) expectations, and it pretty much belly flopped. I love Tex-Mex, Mexican, etc, is talking my favorite foods ever, but this place may as well slap the old "Rattlesnake Cantina" signs back up, because there was absolutely NO difference. The staff must all be first timer waiters and waitresses because it took forever to get our drinks (margarita was lousy, but I think I tasted a little tequila in there somewhere). Even though the place was basically empty at 6:00 on a Tuesday evening, we were unable to get anyone to bring us more chips & dip or water (should you really have to ask this?). I ordered steak fajitas rare. The waitress asked "medium rare?" I replied as I always do when I ask for steak "as rare as you can possibly make it." Wouldn't you know my steak was well WELL done? It's funny, my buddy was talking to the owner and this guy apparently said he 'doesn't make Tex-Mex', he 'only makes authentic Mexican dishes'. Are you serious? Mr. Owner, sir, I beg you to take a quick glance at your menu and point out one thing that isn't a lame, run-of-the-mill, basic, bland, boring American Tex-Mex dish. This place was 100% what you'd expect from a cheap chain restaurant, and it's honestly extremely disappointing! I want nothing more than to have a GREAT Mexican restaurant right down the road from me. There more I think about our entire experience, the more stars I deduct from this review. It should be a 1 star review, honestly. I don't expect I'll return to see if anything changes, because I suspect they'll be out of business before I forget how disappointing my message was there. *I have no affiliation to this restaurant or any other, I'm just a really disappointed customer, with a family that agrees. Please try to improve! Jersey is so diverse it really should have at least a couple restaurants in a small town...
