Chocolaterie Stam — Restaurant in Des Moines

What the hell happened to Stam? Always used to be a great place to buy chocolate in the past. I went in there to get a couple of boxes of Christmas chocolate. I am really particular about the chocolate especially if I am going to pay a higher price. I don’t like dark and shy away from certain mixes. I went in and you can’t pick the Christmas ones. They just come in a box and you get what you get. I asked and they said they don’t do that. Wait a minute!! In years past we have been able to pick. They had special Christmas chocolates Cupcakes for $10.95 for 4 of them. However when I asked what kind of flavor they were the girl had no idea. Not a clue. There were 2 other ladies working there and she did not even ask them nor did they volunteer the information. Very very disappointed. If I am going to spend $100 for chocolate, I want to know what I am buying, not just shoved down my throat for my $100. I did not buy anything since they could not tell me anything about...

Pretty good. My wife is from Europe and misses the coffee shops with sweets there, so I took her here. Can't say it was perfect, but it reminded her of home. She was happy. Most of the chocolates we tried were good, but a couple were disappointing. It would be nice if there were some small cakes, rather than just chocolates, but it's right there on the sign so I can't really complain. Coffee is pretty good. Staff was nice. Not too expensive.

There was some kind of issue with the computer in the back. An audio message that sounded like a trojan scam was playing on a loop over the house speakers, instead of the music that had been playing when we entered. I have never had much of a sweet toothe, even as a child, but I tell ya what... This place is just fabulous! I love the entire concept as well...I never knew that receiving chocolates such as these, from an admirer nonetheless, all perfectly packaged and so pretty, could really be so awesome and fulfilling! Like i said, I've never been huge on sweets but your chocolates really are phenomenal and it's been the only time I've ever noticed and felt the difference in eating them and the fact that chocolate really is an aphrodisiac!
