Jacks Place — Restaurant in Des Moines

We walked in and immediately felt like we were in the wrong place, we get sat down and we get our orders planned, half the menu items have bacon on them between blts, jack burger, turkey club. Ect. Server asks us what we want to drink and we (wife and I) already know what we’re gonna get start ordering. I wanted Blt and wife wanted the jack burger. We get told bacon is out and it’s gonna be about 30 min before it’s done because they were “slammed” 4 cars and 8 people total is a hefty amount of people. I decide I’ll just get cheese curds and wife decides to get a cheeseburger with jack glaze after I pointed without the bacon there’s no point in the 2-3 dollar difference between the 2. We got our food ordered and boom lights down to almost not being able to see. 8 people total in there… maybe keep the lights on when people are gonna eat and it’s a “busy” Saturday with more empty chairs than filled. I decide to cancel my cheese curds because at this point I’m just ready to go. We got our tab and sure as crap I’m charged for a jack burger even after discussing it initially. Just ended up spending 20 bucks on 2 drinks and a burger. I heard “we’re out of bacon” enough times that bacon should have been started well before it became an issue with the menu having bacon on most of the popular dishes. Soooooo. We were very excited to check this place out. From the moment we walked in, we regretted our decision. The place has potential but didn't meet our lowest expectations. The staff were all vaping and or drinking at the bar. We went up to the bar to order our first drinks and app because nobody greeted us for quite some time. The bartender was the only one hustling; unfortunately while the bartender took our order, she hit her vape about 4 times (gross). The food was meh. No silverware was provided. We left half of our food and drinks to cash out. As we were cashing out an employee was making crude comments about anal sex. Unfortunately I really wanted to like this place, the servers were nice. The food was just very distasteful, don’t know if the fryer was dirty but all the food had an odd musk smell to it. Ranch isn’t homemade, cheese curds weren’t fully melted and had that same odd after taste that hung on the food. Got a cheeseburger that was extremely greasy and again just had a weird odd smell same thing with the fries.

Hopefully with the other reviews this was just an Off-day but I wouldn’t recommend for people going to just eat instead of drink...
