We went to the grand opening today (May 18) while they were having their promo of Buy 2 drinks get 1 free & Buy 4 sandwiches get 1 free. When we came, we were told there were no banh mi’s left…. until after we had first ordered boba tea to start our order. There should be a signage somewhere stating that especially for a “Grand Opening” or they should have gave us a heads up before ordering. That wasn’t the only inconvenience, they were also out of jasmine tea. So that’s already 80% of the menu gone. Instead of letting us switch out the “jasmine tea”, the cashier just kept insisting to get another drink. (That’s a problem because some of the other substitutes doesn’t have those specific flavors/fruits.) After explaining to her she THEN said that she CAN switch to oolong or black tea as a substitute. Her attitude then changed because she realized her error and started to become rude with the people I was with. We already felt bad for first ordering the boba that instead of leaving, we just went ahead forward & paid for the drinks with no sandwiches and sat down and waited. It took 30 mins for 1 drink to even come out. And then an extra 5-10 more minutes for the next 2. (3 in total). T other customers that we were conversating with were also getting frustrated as well of how a disaster this was. But what was even more a problem….. the owner. The Vietnamese lady was so rude to her employees. Yelling at them so loud that the whole entire shop of people had turned their heads and share stares at the woman. I get that you were anxious that day , and that it wasn’t going the way you had wanted it to, and the overload of work + things running out, but you should never raise your voice that loud to them and tally off everything they are “doing wrong”. Especially in public. You should not shame another person to make yourself feel good. It’s not morally right. Do better...
Read moreMy wife and I really enjoyed our first visit to Tiger88. The owner and workers were very helpful as we took in the menu and asked questions. We're not big Boba tea drinkers but we wanted to try everything on our first sampling so we both had fruit teas. We appreciated the custom touches they offered. I was happy with 75% sugar, while my wife changed her mind to bump her's from 25% to 50% when it wasn't sweet enough for her taste. We both liked our drinks.
The food menu is limited but growing. We shared fried pork egg rolls, chicken pot stickers and I ordered a grilled pork bahn mi. Everything was delicious. The egg rolls and pot stickers were better than the typical restaurant versions, particularly the egg rolls. We liked how the were not overstuffed with cabbage.
For me, the highlight of the meal was the pork bahn mi. It was, without a doubt, the best bahn mi I've had. I used to get the house special at Bahn Mi So, down on Grand. It was a cold cut sandwich which was the perfect blend for me. The key to the Tiger88 sandwich was the grilling. There was a strong "grilled" taste in every bite that was addictive. It will be hard to resist this bahn mi in the future. I put it up there with the sujuk sandwich at Rozanna's.
Overall, we were very happy with our first meal at Tiger88. Manchester Road in West County is a real hotbed of international restaurants. It's getting hard to decide...
Read moreI recently went into Tiger 88 Banhmi & Boba with a friend of mine to try out these delicious banhmis I keep hearing about, but was left with a bad taste in my mouth very quickly into my visit. Sure, the food was good, but (who I presume to be the owners) are not. I had the pleasure of being welcomed in by a very attentive girl with pink hair in the front, who clearly had surgical scars--regardless, she was hard at work, and the owner had, on multiple occasions, pulled her to the side to criticize her or patronize her, even though I could see, and my friend could see, how hard this young lady was working.
It made me very uncomfortable to witness the owner constantly walking around with a scowl on her face, but her front of house employees were chipper and happy, and she was constantly berating them. I don't think I'll ever come back here: if you're looking for lemongrass beef with a side of ableism and fruitfly infestation, this is your spot. Otherwise, seek out a good bahnmi from a company who cares about their employees.
This company is clearly here to just make money and exploit their employees. What a pity. I hope that girl knows that she's doing a good job, and that she's making the atmosphere in this place, not them. To the owners, I have a word of advice: treat your employees with kindness, they're why people keep coming back, not just your...
