Detroit Pizza Bar — Restaurant in Detroit

For starters, we entered the establishment at 1:50pm. No greeter, some unoccupied tables and no guidance as to how seating was done. We wandered around briefly before seeing a staff person. We asked how seating was done and told “you can just sit anywhere, but that we aren’t open until 2:00pm”. 😳 Soooo, do we stand for ten minutes?

We ended up taking a seat and asked for a menu. They didn’t even have a menu. We were first told the menu would be given out at 2:00pm. Then at 2:00pm we were told menus were still being printed. Then later told we would get a QR CODE to pull up the menu. We then just asked the waitress specifically what was offered, (pizza size, crust type, vegan options etc). Mostly she didn’t even know exactly what was offered; untrained wait staff.

I ended up ordering a vegan pizza (non-dairy cheese, vegan sausage w/vegetables). My husband ordered a meat lovers pizza and lemon pepper chicken wings. Well, our pizzas arrived but not the wings. When asked about the wings the waitress said they “just dropped them”.😳 My pizza had onions added which I did not order, but did not have mushrooms, which I did order. I opted to just pick the onions off and forego the mushrooms rather than wait another 45 minutes for a new pizza.

I asked for additional pizza sauce on the side and crushed red pepper flakes. After about 10 minutes the waitress returned to say they didn’t have pepper flakes nor do they have marinara sauce.😳 I said, the sauce that’s on the pizza, you do not have? The waitress says, oh yeah, we have that. Well can ya bring me some on the side? She returned 5 minutes later with a small condiment container of cold pizza sauce. And, the wings didn’t arrive until we were done eating our pizza. So we just had them give us carryout containers for the leftovers and wings.

Now the pizza itself did taste good though. The crust was light, with good flavor. It was really good for a vegan pizza, and my husband liked the flavor of his pizza as well.

Once home, husband said wings were Not lemon pepper, flavorless, scrawny and oily. He doctored them up with our own lemon pepper seasoning which is what saved them from being trashed.🤦🏾‍♀️

I also observed a pair enter that wanted to order carry out. They were told “carry out” is Not an option.😳

Perhaps being new, the Detroit Pizza Bar just needs to work out the kinks. Whatever the case, since the pizza was tasty, we will give it another try in a few months in hopes they get their...

Called and arranged 2 days before our group arrival…Atmosphere is that of steak and shake with a bar! Nothing to brag about ! Roof top? Yea, but not available and didn’t see where there was a party using it. drinks are toooo strong! All tasting of liquor, missing all of the “flavor” goals… nothing but liquor! Some may think this is ok….for a quick DUI! We called Wednesday for a large party on Friday. We arrived when they said they could accommodate our party only to be greeted with 4 staff members! One bartender, a 66 year old waitress that has NO BUSINESS waitressing! And 2 very mediocre kitchen staff… because I can’t say cooks. Neither the bar, nor kitchen could keep up with our orders! The ONE 66 year old waitress was so overwhelmed with our massive orders as we trickled in! The bartender poured so many shots he couldn’t count because he didn’t ring them in as he poured! Ppl got shots and walked away from the bar without paying! I got three bills before I got the correct bill, only to find out I paid for a drink that a coworker had already bought for me! TOTAL DISARRAY! No one knew what the other staff was doing! Only 4 ppl present “because the staff took off” nothing organized and no OTHER staff called in to help!? I’m sure they lost money today cuz the bartender/owner only cared about getting those strong drinks out! Not to mention we called as a group for karaoke! Not only did that NOT HAPPEN! The owner was so swamped with drinks behind the bar. There was NO MUSIC because he couldn’t stop to turn it on. So much to supporting your own! Would NOT REFER MY ENEMY BE...

Of course I would have said that the service was horrible but unfortunately I couldn’t receive anything to eat because “Detroit Pizza Bar” failed to inform the immediate public that they were “closed” to the public and today was only for family and friends! I guess me and my brother didn’t fit into the family and friends category even though we waited an entire week since their initial grand opening 😡😡😡😡😡to patronize the restaurant! I promise you if I was mayor Dugan or another high ranking city official I would have been “allowed” to order a pizza to go but they denied my request to get our food to go!!!!! This is absolutely pathetic and I didn’t expect this level of non service so early on from an establishment that supposed to serve the African American Community!!!! Once again, what a total flop and embarrassment of the African American food service industry. Lastly, my brother was able to gain the attention of one of the investors as he stood outside of the restaurant drinking a cold beverage with some of his friends and had the AUDACITY TO boast of being an investor of the establishment. However, the investor did offer to purchase us a free pizza on his tab. I Emphatically declined his offer because we did not come out seeking charity but to support another “black owned business “ which has blatantly turned out to be another P.R. Grab to solicit or rob more funds from the immediate surrounding African American community! Myself, friends and family will “never “ patronize this...
