IO Godfrey Rooftop Lounge — Restaurant in Detroit

The rooftop atmosphere was top notch, but we did run into a problem I was hesitant to bring up, but after my own investigation, I have to bring this up. I invited 50+ people to witness my proposal. We had people at the 1st floor bar (buying drinks) and 30 plus people on the rooftop. I ask my best friend to talk with the host(before I arrived) just to make sure they knew we had a big group and wanted a space just to order drinks etc. We didn't ask for seating, but they did accommodate us with a space for our guest. The first issue was that our guest was not aware(initially) that we could only have one bill for everyone. I know this was not communicated, because people were ordering drinks/food and were waiting for a bill for food. This wasn't the worst part; our waitress overheard two of my guest talking and thought she heard one of them say "the first round is on me", which is actually what they said, but they weren't telling her that the WHOLE party drinks were on them, they were saying that they were buying the first round for one of the other couple. So when my friend said he had the first round, the other couple said, they would get the 2nd round! Again, they weren't talking about buying drinks for the whole party! So, now the waitress went around the whole area telling guest that these two gentleman were buying the first TWO rounds which wasn't true! So at the end of our night, we received a bill for over $1100, which I'm not sure who was suppose to get this bill, because I wasn't there to get this space and the gentleman that was told we could have the space was NOT told about the bill being on one receipt. At the end of the stay I was stuck with a bill for over $500 after having to collect from the people that were still there. We also tried to get our waitress back over, but she was LITTERALLY gone and wasn't seen back until we paid the bill (30-40 min later). So we had no one to tell us if this bill was correct, was it from our actual party, or why she told people that these two gentleman was paying for the bill. The waitress wasn't professional in handling this issue and I really think that I shouldn't have been stuck with a $1100 bill that we couldn't verify. Last thing to mention: We had people sitting in other parts of the rooftop and there were other people sitting in areas close to us that we DIDN'T KNOW, so they could've easily been put...

If you are attending an event at this establishment with 6 or more people, they will only provide one check. So keep track of your food and drinks. Unfortunately, we didn’t learn of this until after we placed our order and tried to cash out.

I was all excited thinking we were about to have a good ole time. When I tell you nothing was happening here, not was happening. I’m not sure what side you have to be on to hear some music, but there was none. We were told a dj would be there, nope!

For the larger parties, come love on your person and leave. To order anything was crazy. It took so long just to get water and even longer to place an order. When we finally got a chance to order, it still took forever for anything to arrive. When our food came out, we ordered 1-lamb cigar and two orders of fries. The server came with the entire order in his hand but told us that the second order of fries wasn’t ours. We were like what?? How can you bring half the order?? It still took another 20 minutes for the second order of fries to come out. The fries were supposed to be served with a garlic aioli, nope. We had to ask for that.

We also had two drinks. Our portion of the bill came out to be $90 with gratuity.

The fries were not crispy at all and lacked seasoning. The lamb cigars were tasty. You only get two which were like the size of a spring roll. The drinks could have been chilled better but who knows how long they sat before they arrived to us.

Service definitely could have been better. And there should have been multiple servers for the party. You could tell the staff was frustrated every time we had to ask a question or advise them of missing items.

Parking - valet was available for 15 up to three hours. We parked on the street a few blocks away. Parking was definitely a challenge if you chose not to valet.

The HOST THAT DOES THE MOST!! The Godfrey hotel is Beautiful my husband and I stayed for my birthday this past weekend. The hotel it self is beautiful as well as the rooms. Front desk staff was nice however valet allowed someone to charge an additional car to our room. Overnight valet parking is $35 a night which isn’t too bad. So we payed $70 which we only had one car. This was a little upsetting. We decided to make reservations for my birthday at the rooftop for 4 people. More friends decided to join they made a reservation as well a $300 deposit is required for all parties over 4 people. If you don’t make a reservation there is no seating available for you. 😒 there are high top tables to stand but there isn’t even bar seating. A family member sat in a chair that was not currently being occupied and the hostess physically shaking the chair attempting to pull it away while the person was still seated to make her move. The host was very rude and aggressive toward costumers. Usually once the host seats you at a restaurant you don’t encounter them again however this host was rude she also made us give up a table 1 1/2 into our reservation to accommodate another reservation for a separate party of 6 people who were allowed to sit at one table which we weren’t. The atmosphere and ambience of this place is amazing but the staff lacks professionalism. Valet and rooftop. After voicing concerns to the manager she offered accommodations but I love to write a review and I don’t feel accommodations are necessary after being treated rudely. Encounters like this should never take place. I believe my friends and family spent over $2000 in the restaurant this night. And we were treated horribly.
