Whats wrong with this Motel?? EVERYTHING!!!! this is the most horrific Motel i've ever stayed at in my entire life! There was BLOOD ON THE WALL!!!!! i had an argument with the reception staff trying to get a clean towel and eventually when i got it it stunk of curry, i also noted that the only other couple staying here had to ask for a new roll of toilet paper! This place is filthy and i would rather have stayed in the gutter than in this place! There were dodgy people loitering in the carpark and one of them came up to our balcony. Not once did i feel safe and secure here and the staff were rude, unhelpful and very argumentative. There isn't much in terms of accommodation in Detroit but if you do stay in the city (which has lots to offer), i would reccomend staying at a casino or a chain Motel downtown DO NOT STAY AT THE VIKING MOTEL!!!!! This place needs to be demolished and the block of land closed off forever. When you are in a city like Detroit you need a clean safe place to go back to at night.. this is NOT that place! It's Filthy, unsafe, unwelcoming, and very unsettling. If you go to Detroit, get arrested and spend the night in jail, it will be better than this place. I didnt even sleep in the bed, the sheets had cigarette burns in them and there was hair and dirt in the bed. the room stunk of smoke and old man BO, the Air conditioner/heater didnt work and we couldnt leave the window open to air the place out because it would be so easy to break through the fly wire on the window. i will say it again... DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! You have...
Read morei found a Bed Bug. I would give zero stars if i could. I found a very large Bed Bug in the sheets. I killed it and recorded it cause it was funny and I actually didn't realize it was a bed bug until i googled it the next day but once i confirmed it was a bed bug i went downstairs to tell the front desk i found a bed bug and they claimed "No, there are no bed bugs, no one else has complained." they asked if i wanted to check out but i had no where to go and i didn't have the money to really stay anywhere all and they wouldn't give me another room because they had no vacancies. i told them i have a video tape i can show them and that i am not lying but they then started saying "no, no" and waved me off and started walking away from the service window i was standing at. it was very unprofessional. i took all my things out of the room and spent the night reluctantly. when i checked out, i asked for a copy of my receipt and the same two people that waved me off the first time yelled at the man helping me, "no, no" and started waving at me and saying "bye, bye, byeeee" it was one of the strangest experiences I've ever had with a motel and i am contacting the better business bureau. this place should be shut down. spend the extra cash and stay...
Read moreRun down hotel with furniture reminiscent of the 60s-70s, although bed and bathroom were clean. Reception desk looked worse than the room itself. No phone, no hairdryer. Has air conditioning, free wifi, microwave and mini fridge. Nice view of the Motorcity. I was told the Viking Hotel used to be a hotspot for criminal activity, but an Indian family has recently purchased the hotel and it appears they are trying to turn around its reputation, the two nights I stayed there, I didn't see any odd commotion or sex workers. I am a young woman travelling alone and they made sure I was not one of them too, lol. They were not the warmest people but were polite and efficient. Both a cab and a delivery driver advised against staying there though, so I would probably avoid it if you are travelling as a family with children, just to be safe. Great location. Best price (55$ USD a night in late July through online booking). Not a great spot to get to on foot but it's only about a 5$ cab ride...
