Beacon Park is a nice place to visit. There is a restaurant on site but it is not always open. One funny thing about the place is that the park area is furnished with astro-turf but the roof of the restaurant has actual grass growing on it! Cracks me up every time I look at the park – especially from afar.
Today they had ‘Los Trompos’ there. It is an internationally travelling art installation. They are giant sit and spins. They are a lot of fun to ride in. They are also fun to look at. They are colorful and imaginative.
The park is very nicely landscaped. During the spring and summer months there are flowers blooming nearly all the time. Spring is especially nice as they have a great Tulip display. Along with the restaurant on site there are usually lunch trucks. Today is a wood fired pizza truck. Yum!
The park normally has a variety of attractions over time. Along with Los Trompos right now there is a tent installed with lots of pinball machines and other games. It’s all free which is definitely a positive. Easy walking to hotels, restaurants and other...
Read moreWent for a pop-up event and it was so fun! The park is beautiful and well maintained. And I think it is perfect for events. There’s a great spot for food trucks at the side of the park also that doesn’t disrupt the regular flow of traffic which is great.
I will say that because it is artificial turf instead of real grass on top of it being so well manicured - it is a bit hard to find places for my dog to sniff around without him trying to get into the flowerbeds.
But I think this is a great park for events and to let kids run around (plenty of space for them to actually run and get out energy!). There is also Circle Park (attached to the DTE building) right next door, which is also a public park, and that has plenty of space for dogs to sniff about and for putting out a picnic blanket if Beacon is a bit crowded with an event. Super excited to check out more...
Read moreNice small field covered with artificial turf. Volleyball and table tennis setups ready for use unless other events are sceduled. DTE security continuously walks the perimeter.
Plus is this looks to be a nice place to meet friends and be active in the heart of the city. The park is lined with permanent benches as well as some moveable chairs. Located on Grand River between Adams and Cass.
Cons are the space is fairly small and I watched as volleyball after volleyball nearly rolled on to Grand River or into a parked car. Free parking is little to none so this seems to mainly serve DTE employees, young people living close by or those willing to take a bus or ride a bike.
Beacon Park is located next to DTE's corporate offices. On the opposite side of the park is Lumen a nice mid to upscale restaurant with outdoor seating and gas fireplaces. Bus routes on...
