Found this place using Postmates while my car was down & i relied heavy on delivery services... first time it was ok i hadnāt had any carribean food in a long time so it was decent. On another occasion i had been craving some oxtails & my 2 favorite places had not been opening so as i drove around seeking food i stumbled across this place again. I ordered my oxtail dinner & was pleasantly satisfied this time itās like they had changed the recipe & everything was much flavorful the 2nd time. Now on my 3rd visit it was my mom who wanted to try them so i recommended we should thinking my 3rd time trying them would be even better but it ended up being even worse!! The place was completely chaotic & unorganized after waiting almost an hour to receive my food i noticed all the customers who preferred behind me were getting their food handed out as i just waited so when inquiring about my order the guy who may have been the manager/cashier kept telling me itās coming & just give him a few minutes ... Iām thinking ok itās been an hour!! I waited a few more minutes due to the fact that mom is diabetic & needed to have dinner & it was already paid for but after watching them continue to skip over my order i approached the cashier again and asked for a refund he said no problem then cane back & said it would take the same amount of time to refund me as it would to get me order finished. Then he began to debate the time i was waiting when i clearly had my receipt with the time stamp of when it was placed. This day they were more interested in filling Doordash/Grubhub/ etc etc orders because those people were to walk right in & out... i ordered 3 dinners plus extra sides so my bill wasnāt cheap but unfortunately with customer service skills like that i will not be returning. The second time was a few days ago. I ordered an oxtail large dinner with rice. I placed my order, grabbed my food once my order was ready, drove to Southfield, Mi and drove right home. It wasnāt an hour time for me to get done doing runs after I picked up my food. Once I came home I looked at the food and ate a spoon of rice. At this time it was maybe about 4:30 pm. I laid down less than an hour just to get ready for work.
I get to work before 7 pm ā by 9 pm I decide to eat my dinner I purchased . I warm it up, start to eat it and I notice my food had a stench, a spoiled smell. Kept smelling it. Just immediately stopped eating it because the rice and beans smelled bad. The food was spoiled. I smelled it and it tasted like it. So I closed the container and bagged the food back up. I later went back to the food to show a co-worker the food. I wanted her to smell the food because I knew I wasnāt crazy. As soon as I opened the container.. the stench was 10 times worse and immediately she said it was the rice and beans that had the stench. I threw the dish in the trash. I couldnāt believe it.
Now the issue here isā Iām a cooker. Iām an African woman who makes African dishes often. I use lots of onions to prepare my food. I cook lots of beans and rice. Apparently what it seems like. The rice and beans was old or stored improperly and it was definitely spoiled. This is unacceptable! Today, I chose to try a new meat, lamb chops, with the same sides I normally purchase with the jerk chicken wing meal. Over the course of four years, Iāve recommended the spot to others. It was busy in the restaurant and for me. We had three church services to attend. I am born and raised on the Eastside, only come west to fellowship or visit family. I had someone with me for lunch today and we spent $47 in cash. We ordered the same meal. Our order was going to make the lady I was with late to join choir so I dropped her off on meyers at our second service, came back and had to wait another 45 minutes to get our food. Was late to service. While driving back east to third service, we ate in the car. I couldnāt bite into the lamb chop. It was tough. The cabbage was much crunchier than normal. We were hungry and disappointed. I couldnāt turn around because we were in a hurry to make final service. We thought, we could doctor up the chops after we make it home. She tried it and it didnāt work. Feeling hurt and embarrassed as I was hoping she could enjoy the food I enjoy every time I visit the spot. The manager did give me a ginger beer for my wait before I received my meal but now, we are thinking, can we get a refund?
