My previous review is below from a long time ago. I've been coming to Kwong Village since 2001. It has been the BEST spot for Chinese in Metro Detroit. I ordered food on NYE a few weeks ago and something drastically changed...my heart broke. There is another review or two below that describe the sweet and sour sauce as a gelatinous goop and sadly, that's right. It used to be a rich, sweet sauce that tasted like a thicker duck sauce. But it's really a gross gel now. Ugh. And the almond chicken! My go to! Was the only place I've been able to find almond chicken with the yellow sauce and not the brown gravy everyone else serves. This time it wasn't yellow. It was, idk, a pale tan. Like the color of a curly 90s telephone cord. And the consistency was pudding. Several years ago they did away with the salad shrimp for fried rice, which was fine. And they changed the general tso chicken, which was a major bummer. But this time I was so sad about the food we ordered.
You get so much for paying so little! The best dishes are almond and general tso chicken, chicken lo mein, and jumbo fried shrimp. But really everything...

The sauce was thicker like a gel & not how either dish is supposed to taste. They ONLY have shrimp egg rolls. Which were disgusting “spat it out” the rice had three shrimps on top. Typically shrimp fried rice either is chopped or has the mini shrimp throughout and was disgusting . I ordered the beef fried rice for myself it was also disgusting. The rice tasted like the way the restaurant smelled!! Kinda like stagnant water! 🤢 crab rangoon was also weird and not good kinda dry. I’m not sure what they used for beef but it was WEIRD. Over all it was horrible and disgusting. I wasted 32 bucks for dinner 😡 I’m not sure who’s leaving all those good reviews but definitely sus. Or they have never had proper Chinese food… cash only btw. I definitely was hoping to find a gem 😬 like I’m not sure how they’ve been in business...
Read moreThis is a take out Chinese Restaurant that only accepts cash. The beef and broccoli was not the best but far from the worst. The meat was tender and not chewy, the carrots and broccoli wasn't over cooked or raw-crunchy. Mine was not as seasoned as my daughter's, she had the same thing. The sweet and sour meal, I got no complaints about it. This place is rare for several reasons: price, shrimp comes in the rice (egg roll as well), and quantity plus they offer the option of sauce on your meal or on the side (sweet &sour)! Many locations have charges for shrimp friend rice, give you white rice and put your sauce in a cup for you to pour yourself. This is great if that is your preference. But I like fried rice not rice that I can get from my cabinet and cook (exception for certain dishes) and to see have my sauce...
