We were greeted and sat immediately. The wait staff came and took our drink order. Drinks arrived promptly. Our food order was taken and an appetizer was ordered. In under five minutes the food and appetizer was delivered. We ordered Curry goat, curry chicken and CooCoo and Callaloo. I ordered my goat mild plus and there was no heat at all. My wife had the CooCoo and left hungry. It is a nice sized square of polenta with The Valladolid sauce over it with a ramekin of additional sauce. The side of fried plantains is really just a taste. There were just two slices of plantain along with three slices of cucumber. The appetizer was Doubles and it was two hamburger bun sized dough buns generously filled. It was disappointing that it was served with the meal. Wait staff was attentive. My son-in-law had the curry goat spicy and it was not overpowering. The goat was tender. The curry chicken medium seemed to lack chicken as it is shredded finely.
They need to pace the delivery of food and think about giving you a larger portion of plantains. I have no idea why the cucumber was on the plate? For what you get it seems slightly overpriced. Our bill was $100 with top for 4 people. One drink each, 1app...
Read moreGreat food, great service (Dave?), clean. Even the owner was super friendly and didn’t seem to mind getting his hands dirty, making sure his staff & customers were taken care of! Food alone will have me craving more but the fact that everything else was on point without any pretentiousness, put it over the top! Great place!!! Happy to give them a deserving 5+ star review! UDATE: went back with 6 family members last night… all 3 orders of the curried goat had A LOT of bones in the dish. Some were big enough to see but 1/2 were so small (literally slivers) that we were biting down on them. By the time we spent picking them out, as to not chip teeth or sever our intestines from accidentally swallowing (actually possible & dangerous), the food wasn’t hot anymore. Still highly recommend jerk chicken & curried chicken!! Wanted to love the goat as much but found it to be ok & would rather just enjoy my meal & not worry about hurting myself. All of us felt that same of this dish. Not 1st time having goat either; just 1st time here. Changing my rating to 4.5 lol. Will still support. Just be warned of small bones hiding in the...
Read moreSuch a great dining experience. A friend and I tried it for the first time. I'd been meaning to try it for some time. The staff was super-friendly and so helpful. Not being able to decide on entrees, we decided to devour appetizers to get a real flavor of the place. The Jerk Chicken tacos were a tastebud explosion. The shell is not your usual corn meal or soft flour, but more of a fried puff pastry. The beef patties may confuse with its name. It's more like a meat pie, or pasty. It reminded me of the rotis that I ate in Antigua. The oxtail sliders were savory. I think that they are better without the bun. Last on that list was the Doubles; a fried dough with chickpeas and spices, kind of a Caribbean falafel.
The bar was our seating area, and we had great service from our bartender (whose name escapes me) and good suggestions from their variety of rums and rum cocktails. Rum is my preferred poison, and I made some new friends, with both the brands and the cocktail concoctions.
Lester, the proprietor stopped by and taught us a new way to enjoy rum - with coconut water.
I should have been back there by now. I'm going...
