Definitely a 5-Star Dining Experience at Katana Pittsburgh and it was a Birthday to Remember!
We visited Katana Pittsburgh tonight to celebrate my son's birthday, and I can honestly say — WOW! From start to finish, this was hands down one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a very long time and well worth the money.
Our group of five adults ordered a variety of dishes, and not one of us was disappointed. I chose the Hibachi Filet Mignon & Shrimp, and I have to say, it was cooked to perfection. The filet was cooked exactly as I requested, Medium Rare, tender and flavorful — it practically melted in my mouth. I’ve dined at many Japanese Sushi & Hibachi steakhouses over the years, and this was, without question, the best Filet Mignon Steak and Shrimp I’ve had in ages. Even the shrimp were impressively large and meaty — a refreshing change from the smaller, less satisfying portions we’ve encountered at other places. Everyone at our table had the same to say about their meals.
The portions were generous — my plate was filled from edge to edge, leaving me completely satisfied. Even the ginger salad dressing stood out. Unlike the runny dressings I’ve had elsewhere, Katana’s was thick, well-balanced, and full of flavor.
Service was another highlight of the evening. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and professional. She made sure our drinks were always topped off, checked in at just the right moments, and the food arrived at our table surprisingly fast without feeling rushed.
The restaurant itself was spotless, well-organized, and comfortably spaced — no cramped tables or overcrowded dining room, which made for a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted immediately with a warm welcome and seated right away, setting a positive tone for the entire evening.
As for the Price, I’d say prices range from around $10 to $30 per person, depending on what you order — and the portions were absolutely worth it.
In short, Katana Pittsburgh exceeded our expectations in every way. From the exceptional food to the top-notch service and welcoming environment, this was a birthday dinner for my son and family to remember. We’ll definitely be...
Read moreUnremarkable but eatable foods, which are NOT AUTHENTIC to the cuisines it claims to serve. They are dismal imitations of the otherwise great cuisines of Asia.
Pittsburgh has a number of very authentic Chinese, Japanese and Thai restaurants. —- This one IS NOT AND CANNOT BE considered among them.
Their menu: Very long list of chinese-style foods. General Tso and egg rolls are NOT Chinese. This is is listing is typical to chinese-style eateries that pervades America.
Calling something Hibachi does NOT make it Japanese. Their miso soup is very bland and hardly warm.
There’s some so called Thai foods, which according to friends who’ve been here, are sugary.
*The draw to this place seems to be the “all you can eat” or buffet for raw fish.
While it’s an affordable $30.00 fare, THESE ARE NOT SUSHI according to the Japanese standards.
Cheese is not/has never been an ingredient in real Japanese cuisine🤮🤮🤮. Adding cheese to raw fish is a culinary sin.
Their “crab” sushi is the fake surimi🤮🤮🤮. A crab comes from the sea or river or lake. Surimi is factory concoction.
Real sushi uses only fish or shellfish. None of those pre-processed stuff!!!
Please stop calling “rolls” sushi. ROLLS ARE NOT SUSHI.
Real sushi is a clean and simple preparation of slices (about 1/3 to 1/2 inch) of very fresh fish.
Sushi rice is a Japanese strain of rice. It is long grain, soft, slightly fragrant, moist and used sparingly.
-Here the fish slices are very very thin👎👎👎. Their rice is poor quality: very dry, looks like the ordinary short grain rice, and too much of it.
Their rolls are slabs of rice with very very thin slices of fish. The worst is they add sauces, which destroys the flavor of fish!!!👎👎👎
Service is good, the waitress is quite attentive 👏👏👏.
The eatery itself is spacious and looks very tidy.
THERE ARE REAL AND BETTER SUSHI/SASHIMI EATERIES...
Read moreHands down, Katana is one of my absolute favorite sushi restaurants in the area now. We went for my birthday, and honestly, I wasn’t sure if it would still be as good as I remembered — but it was even better! I’d give this place *10 stars * if I could.
I ordered the Tako Su, Sushi Deluxe, and Unagi Don. I also tried a bit of what my family ordered — and nothing, and I mean nothing, was bad. The Sushi Deluxe was plated beautifully, everything looked super fresh and high quality (and I’ve been to a lot of sushi places), and it all tasted amazing. The Unagi Don… wow. This is a dish I honestly thought I might never get to have again; I almost cried I was so happy.
Ichiban was the last place I had it, and ever since they changed hands, not only is the dish gone from there, but the overall selection just wasn't the same at Ichiban. This is one of my all-time favorite dishes, and having it again — and even better than it used to be — made my day feel that much more special. It was tender, flavorful, and just melted in my mouth. Absolute perfection. Thank you so, so SO much Katana!
I’ve noticed a lot of reviews mentioning takeout, and while I can’t speak to the delivery experience, I highly recommend dining in if you can. The inside is cozy and welcoming, with beautiful art and a warm atmosphere that really adds to the experience. Our food came at a rapid pace, and our server was very attentive and kind to answer our questions when we had them. The selection of food & the portions/money spent was well above worth it!
I will be raving about this place to everyone I know, and I cannot...
