First off I want to say the first time we came here the food and staff were 5 star.
The second time we came (memorial day weekend) is a completely different story. We knew it would be busy but they were able to sit us right away. After we sat down the waitress came to get our drinks order and while ordering my grandmother was trying to figure out if she wanted a cocktail. She tried to ask what the flavor of the day was but before she could ask the staff walked away to get our non-alcoholic drinks. When she came back we were able to order the drinks.
She came back to take our food order and seemed kind of rushed. My mom ordered the RUFFLIN FEATHERS with Parmesan fries. My sister ordered THE BEE’S KNEES with chips. My grandmother ordered the ALABAMA BENEDICT and I ordered the CHICKEN & WAFFLES.
Once we got our food this is where the issues started. My mom's sandwich and fries were perfectly fine. My sister got the chips because she doesn't like Parmesan. The chips came covered in Parmesan (it doesn't say on the menu that they do). My grandmothers meal was covered in Parmesan cheese also. It was all over her grits and didn't mesh well with the hollandaise sauce. I also had Parmesan all over my hot honey chicken and waffles. Now don't get me wrong I like Parmesan but this was to much. It completely overpowered any other flavor. Also nowhere on the menu does it say that everything comes with Parmesan. My grandmother ended up only eating some of her meal. I scraped off as much Parm as I could. (Also wanted to note the syrup was ice cold). My sister's sandwich was super dry.
*I want to make a note the first time we came I ordered the chicken and waffles and they were amazing (they also weren't covered in Parmesan cheese) so I was looking forward to getting them again. Also each item that we ordered was the same item we ordered when we first came and like I stated before it was amazing so I don't know what happened this time
As for the staff once she set down our food she left which is fine but it took her a while to come back. My sister was waiting for her to ask to get chips with out Parm and to get ranch. Also our teas and waters were empty. She finally came back and gave us drink refills. Before my sister could ask for the ranch she walked away. So she ended up sitting there waiting for the ranch. We ended up flagging her down and asking for new chips and ranch.
We understand that she has other tables but the feeling you got from her was that she was rushed and wasn't really paying attention. She also only came once to refill our drinks and when she did she tried to give us water without ice (which means the water would of been room temp). After the meal we wanted to order some macarons to go. Again it took her forever to come back and bring us the check and dessert. When she handed the items to my mom who was paying she said have a good day but I saw her smile drop and the tone she used sounded like finally one less table. It made us feel like we were a burden.
So in the end most of us ate half our meals and we left disappointed because the first time we had such an amazing experience.
My suggestion is that if you do go make sure you ask for...
Read moreThis place was very highly hyped and advertises its Top Chef roots. I had to call as soon as they opened to get a Friday night reservation with my wife and infant after trying last week and they were full up. When we arrived at our reservation time, were told we could sit in the entrance area or outside, or wait 15 to 20 minutes to sit in the main dining area, it had cooled off a good bit from the day so we chose to sit outside.
We started with the poke stack and it was absolutely delicious. Tuna was fresh and the dish was creative.
I had the steak frites with truffle fries. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. I'm not sure if it was the steak or the chimichurri sauce, but the steak was pretty salty, a little too much for my taste and I'm a big salt on steak fan. They put the steak on the fries for presentation, and it made the fries a little soggy, but overall, besides being a little too salty, both were pretty good.
My wife got the blackened steak salad. When the salad came out, it did not have the blue cheese dressing or crumbles, it was just greens, steak and onions. We asked about the dressing and the server acted surprised. She then brought out a side of blue cheese and balsamic vinegarette, not the dressing that went with the salad. The steak on the salad was cooked well, was a cheaper cut with a good amount of gristle in it. The seasoning on the steak tasted like a large amount of Lowrys seasoning salt and ground red pepper. It had a lot of heat, and was very salty. I think it may have possibly went well with the house made blue cheese dressing, which I would assume was cream or milk based, but with the added salt of the vinegar, it didn't really work and was just salty and hot. We didn't complain as we just assumed the blue cheese dressing didn't get prepped today.
The kicker of the night was when we were brought the check about 10 minutes after we got our entrees, and we were not offered dessert, while every other table around us was. At that point we did not feel very welcome, paid our check and left.
The food as very well presented, but I'm not sure it lives up to the Top Chef hype on a Friday, and it's pretty expensive for what we did get. We may come back just for drinks and appetizers or dessert, as what the other tables were being offered...
Read moreOverly rustic decor and furnishings and unattentive staff nearly ruined what might have been an otherwise fairly pleasant meal of southern chic cuisine. For the non-attentiveness of the staff here, the prices are too high by 20% in my opinion. If you are over 50ish and you expect that higher prices during lunchtime should not only be for the meal itself but also for the service and attentiveness of the staff, this restaurant may not be a good fit for you. Be warned. 😒 The chef here is famously in a national contest, currently. We were disappointed in the meal, even though the chicken salad sandwiches had nicely toasted whole wheat bread. Alfalfa sprouts on the sandwich were different, but that's all I can say. The chicken salad was good but not worthy of a "B+" as a menu item priced at $11.00 - it was a hearty sandwich on the plus side. 😉 Served with their own fried potato chips, which were plentiful and sitting in a metal basket. Everything fit on a rectangular metal pan. I pondered if a metal or simple china plate would look more inviting. My friend said "at least with these little metal pans they don't have any broken dishes." Evidently, all of the sandwiches are served on them. The chips get the grade of B+ . Well, the very excessively rustic atmosphere and old-looking rustic tables and chairs are probably an overboard effort. After all, for the past 10 years, the rustic furnishings thing is all enjoyed so greatly and is quite popular for kitchens and dining areas in homes and in many dining establishments now. The medium Gray walls and the bare concrete/cement floor are a bit too much. (How about a cement floor for only half of the restaurant?) Some of the tables are dreary and depressing. 😞 But not all of them. The ones that have some light paint on them are fine! The lighting is good. Nice chandeliers. I wish we had splurged and had the Salmon sandwiches instead for $14. I think that's the only item on the menu that wasn't over-priced. Hopefully, that would merit an "A"!! 😮 Oh, go get your take-out (doggy bag) container for your left-overs yourself. The staff don't do that. If the weather is nice, eat outside on the patio! It was chilly, cloudy and windy, so we had to eat inside. 😕 Sorry, I failed to...
