Beautiful dining experience with a sunny view of Walnut Creek's rolling hillside. Fantastic spaced out dining with choice of menu and or buffet style dining. I was very disappointed with the selection of the over all buffet options. For $21 a person, it was a bit steep for a basic meal: mashed taters, baked chicken, grilled chicken, roast beef, or enchiladas. Lacking in dessert options, they had ONLY apples crisp (tastes like apple pie) or bread pudding. (Tastes like French toast) The salad bar option was dainty and offered basic toppings. With it being all Amish run, I'd of hoped for more of a variety to taste-test my pallet of "trying new things in new places." The only thing that I could race about was (and I love Mexican food) that was probably the best enchiladas I have ever had, out side of a Mexican restaurant. I craved them.
There is a small general store outside of the restaurant but as a store and gift shop, I was surprised at how empty and minimal the shelves were. There was nothing eye catching that I wanted to take home. It was all "basic tourist" stuff that you would find anywhere. So I didn't indulge.
The over all restaurant was extremely accommodating for the elderly and children. There was more than enough room for electric and or manual wheelchairs, more than enough room for high chairs, and more than enough room for strollers or walkers. The bathrooms are spacious in accomodations for all handicap and the children of all ages. They were very clean and tidy. The buffet bars at low enough for those in wheelchairs can grab their own things and elementary kids can make their own plates.
It was a 2-hour drive one way, from home, but if I ever end up in Walnut Creek again, I'm definitely coming back to this location to dine. Is is definitely a tourist town setting...
Read moreThe location is breathtaking and the restaurant itself is spacious and very well kept. The menu has all the favorites but I was in the mood for pancakes and sausage. In the end I couldn't finish the hotcakes (not "pancakes") they were so filling and delicious, but it was mainly due to swallowing the biscuit and gravy whole. I regret not asking about buying the yummy strawberry freezer jam. My server said it tasted like candy, which I don't eat. But it was heaven on the fluffy delicious wheat toast. I ordered a lot of food having flown in from the west coast the night before. My hotel was an hour and a half away from this marvelous place which I chose from several in Amish country, so I was determined but starving. I think the prices are comparable to any major chain resaturant but this is closer to home cooking than I find in the other places, and with good reason. I paid $5.99 for each hotcake which is steep. But I couldn't even finish one so it's worth the price. Plus the server kinda warned me they were pretty filling and she was right. I took my leftover one and a half hotcake plus a sausage patty and ate off it the rest of the day. It was literally the only meal I had the whole day until I got to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement later that night and spent $8 on a small personal size pizza from a food warmer... The Amish are so friendly and inviting, and their courteous-ness is truly other worldly, stands out to the outsider real quick. They are unafraid of displaying their culture even in literature choices at the check out counter. I only hated not having enough time to settle in and explore this quaint...
Read moreReply to restaurant: 1. If you'd looked at the attached photo you can see that I edited the incorrect Google information for you, which I had clearly mentioned in my review. Not all of us are on Facebook. Regarding the website, your online system allows one to place a pickup order, but gives no notice that one can't pick it up if it's not ready until you're closed. I watched a family walk up to your restaurant, which was supposed to still be open, and was turned away at 6:55 pm. 2. Instead of apologizing for the bad food and your rude staff, you're sorry that I "feel this way." No thanks.
Have been coming here for years but last night's $16+ dinner was terrible. Med rare was cooked well done. Green beans were watery and in pieces like they were the last in the bin. Mashed potatoes were a solid scoop of unseasoned dry creamed potatoes. I arrived at 6:45 p.m. but their notification said my meal was not ready until 6:56 p.m. then I was tersely told they close at 7:00 though Google said they were open until 8:00 p.m. so I submitted a time edit to Google. A family who arrived at the same time was turned away from the restaurant at 7:00 p.m. Management's response to negative reviews are generic and unhelpful responses. In fact, my first review was deleted, though as you can see there's nothing wrong with it other than not enjoying a lousy meal. I will not return to...
