Room #306 was just the ticket for our trip to the Ohio Star Theater (just to the east of this hotel) September 2025. It is a modern well-maintained property with easy access from Route 39 because of the traffic light at Rt 511 & 39. Our room was described as King with Countryside view with a balcony. It had a little snack bar area with 2 bar stools, sink, microwave & small fridge, coffeemaker with Starbucks for the coffee choice. No popcorn making allowed in the microwave though. You probably can do that in the lobby, however. There were 2 nice swivel-rocker recliners in the room, nice size tv with good reception, clean carpeting in the room and clean tile floors in bathroom, and good wi-fi. The bathroom shower was a tiled walk-in, included a hairdryer and nightlight. A 2-drawer chest positioned under the tv and a 2-shelf bedside unit, along with room-darkening shades, floor-length mirror, closet area, and ironing board/iron. Everything was clean and comfortable, including the king bedding with 6 pillows. The heating/cooling system was vented and controlled by wall thermostat- which is so desirable to the old choices of under the window units! The system that is in the room is quiet and worked well. ||The hallway and elevator area was clean also. Ice machine near the elevator. The breakfast was well-stocked with a very nice variety of items served at the proper temperatures. The breakfast area was very spacious and clean, with several areas to sit and visit while eating. There was an area near the front desk offering snacks to purchase. The front desk was friendly and professional for check-in and check-out. I believe our clerk for that was Margaret. Security for the doors, both indoors and outdoors were all controlled with the room card. The maintenance and housekeeping staff are all doing a good job in a behind-the-scenes teamwork effort to make sure they offer a quality stay for the guests on the entire facility. ||The balcony choice was a selling point for me! To be able to sit outside, enjoy the rolling hills at sunset, and just relax. So the small balcony that wasn't very deep at all, that had absolutely NO chairs to sit out there was a bummer! The bar stools were vinyl and chrome- which we tried to use as make-shift seating on the balcony. But they were not a comfortable seat for the balcony! The size is not changeable, but the availability of seating on that balcony is changeable! The hotel has various outdoor seating on the ground level patio areas. Those kinds of chairs would be fine on the small balconies of the rooms offering a balcony. I plan to come back to the hotel when in the area. When that happens, I hope to see some type of appropriate seating on the balcony! The makeshift bar stool nor the option of just standing on the balcony were not my idea of enjoying that countryside view that was described for my room choice. The outdoor light on the balcony came on automatically, which is understandable. But it would've been nice to be able to control that so bugs wouldn't be attracted to the light on the balcony IF a guest actually could comfortably sit on the balcony. But the wiring is done for that- so it's not a huge deal. But the seating situation on the balcony was a big deal for me- since I often like to go outside if I cannot sleep but want to feel I don't have to be concerned about being in an unfamiliar spot- a balcony offers a private area to do that, if only the seating was a better option! I'm not a complainer, but the balcony seating was a disappointment. ||The traffic coming and going where the intersection of roads meet near the hotel made for some noise that wasn't the expected horse and buggy sounds. But that is nothing the hotel can control, and once you are inside the room -the noise level isn't an issue really. I believe the hotel is part of the Choice brand hotels- but I wasn't recognized for the member status that usually will happen at a Choice brand. That's not a big deal to me either, but might be to some folks. ||Overall, this is staying on my list of desirable places to stay at a comparable rate to other hotels...
Read moreWife and I come here every other month for a quiet getaway. It appears the manager actually lives there, as does her family. Usually checking in is a good and warm experience, this time it was not as it felt cold and unwelcoming. The room was amazing as always, the view absolutely beautiful, hotel not crowded. The one thing we have always noticed is that the pool desperately needs cleaned, as the floor is covered in dirt, the hand rail into the pool from the steps is dangerously loose, and the pool lining is cracked in several places. While we were swimming, a young boy staying at the hotel was running and diving into the pool and the hot tub, jumping from chairs into the pool, dragging outdoor furniture into the pool room to use as a diving board, leaving trash all around the pool area and screaming very loudly. Another family with children left the pool due to the chaos from him. The boy was accompanied by a little girl, and two other women (short haired heavyset, thin with long black hair) who were encouraging the behavior. We ended up leaving the pool as well, as to avoid witnessing any injuries from the adults jerking the children into the pool by their feet. Later that evening, my wife and I were enjoying a drink in the lobby when the same boy and girl, were making themselves at home inside the employee kitchen/food prep area, gathering armloads of food and cups of milk to take back to their room. You could hear them dropping dishes and other items while in the food prep area. After several trips like this, the boy ran into the hotel mini-store and brought out several items to take to his room. There was no one at the front desk the entire time this was happening, from about 11:20PM to just after midnight. We found out later that these children and the two adults with them are family of the Manager (Margaret), and the adults possibly work there as well. The next morning, the same manager was there but was handling breakfast service, (along with a young blonde female who was very pleasant and professional while working). Two other guests complained outloud about how rude the Margaret was when they asked if there was more decaf coffee brewing, however she had time to chat with a table with 2 other male guests for around 15 minutes while the coffee was supposedly brewing, and provided them with containers of food from the back, while the other ladies never got their coffee. Hot food was poor quality, biscuits were hard, eggs were ice cold and bacon was so thin and floppy you could see thru it. Usually the food is decent, unfortunately not this time. I will also mention the gentleman cleaning rooms on Sunday morning was very pleasant, polite and professional. Sadly, we will be staying at a different hotel from this point on, too much chaos to enjoy a peaceful getaway at the...
Read moreI honestly don’t know where to begin with this review other than extremely dissatisfied! The hotel itself was beautiful the room and views also beautiful. But looks can be very deceiving. My daughter woke up in the middle of the night saying she was itching. We turned on the lights to find Bed bugs on the headboard, pillows, in the sheets and under the mattresses. I grabbed and killed 4 of them and put them in a cup of water to bring downstairs to the front desk. Apparently the hotel manager Who I’m guessing lives at the hotel had to be woken up by a young woman standing in for the night shift. The Manager’s name “Margaret” who I’ve found out from other unpleasant reviews, was to say the least very Crass! She came down in her Pj’s and addressed my daughter & I with “what’s the problem!” I told her that our room has bed begs and we can’t stay in there. She looked at me very insolently and continued by saying, “This hotel gets treated for that” and just continued to look at me as if I was the problem and for waking her up! After a brief pause of shock on my end. I continued and said, well did you see the cup of bugs I brought down? I have pictures and look at the bites on my daughter. This lady could not have been any more disrespectful and continued on by saying “what do you want me to do about it, we have no other rooms!” She would not offer us any solution and acted as if WE were a burden! She was off-put to even really try to help us find another place to stay! Then only to continue by saying to ME that I was being rude to her! Ummm I’m defending myself from her unmannerly & discourteous behavior to me & my Daughter. Finally after a resolve on my end and my husband (who was in another state) I asked her to refund my stay and we left. We had to drive an hour at 1am through Amish country because what ever directions she gave us to this other Hotel got us lost! It was the worst experience and I was on a budgeted over night stay. I will absolutely be contacting the health department to resolve this. I know this post is long but I’m doing it to help others from having this experience. Bed bugs are bad and they can travel with you to your home. I’ll also add by saying that my husband & I work in hospitality and whoever owns this hotel needs to have a real conversation with “Margaret”! Had it not been for the discourteous behavior and perhaps her going out of her way to help us or even an apology for the room. I would not have even left a...
