Chula's Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Downers Grove

This is a hard restaurant to rate. At our first visit, there was only one other table and we were served pretty quickly (food took longer than most places) and hostess/waitress/bar tender was attentive and friendly. Yesterday, we walked into the restaurant with maybe 3 people at bar and 5-7 tables with seated guests. The hostess told us to sit anywhere and I could tell she was a bit flustered. Then a man who I assumed was the bus boy / who we thought was the owner from the previous visit seated us at a dirty booth that we waited to be cleaned mind you there were like 8 other clean booths. My family includes myself, husband and 2 year old and 7 month old. I went to restroom to change my son and saw someone at bar reaching behind bar for menu and the hostess apologized for not giving him one before. Got back to table and there were menus and waters that my husband told me the “bus boy” brought. We waited about 15 minutes for someone to take our order but no one came and we just saw a bunch of tables go up to the bar to check out and who look like had been waiting for quite some time and there was confusion of bills and items were charged incorrectly. We visited on my birthday ( Cinco De Mayo) to see the Mariachi band, which made the visit worthwhile. The place was chaotic and seemed like no one knew what they were doing, rushing around aimlessly and unorganized. The original server got our drink order wrong, salt on the margarita, which we did not want, as well as a salty, small pina colada. That was just the beginning. I ordered a vegetarian burrito, my husband ordered shrimp tacos. After over an hour of waiting for our food, the server that was waiting on the table next to us noticed we weren't getting our food. She gave us a mistake order of a guac and chips plate to hold us over. She came back and said our order had never been put into the system. When we finally got our dishes, I found that my burrito had nothing but shredded lettuce and some diced tomatoes inside. The server that originally took our order never returned to our table after bringing another incorrect drink order. Who rims a pina colada with salt? Thankfully, the server that took over our table made everything sort of right by comping our meal and offering dessert, which we refused. She was very nice. A holiday in a restaurant should have extra management on staff to keep things running smoothly. They are in desperate need of proper management...

I ordered 2 salmon dinners that are supposed to come with jumbo shrimp and crab meat. The dinners were $30.00 a piece, which is steep but since it was my sister and I birthday, I decided to try it. I got the orders for take out and waited 30 minutes for them to prepare it. When I got home and opened the dinners there was no crab meat and barely any sauce on either plate. I called back and spoke to the waitress who took my order and she put me on hold to speak with the owner/ chef I believe. She comes back to the phone and tells me, “ oh yea, we forgot to tell you we ran out of crab so we gave you extra shrimp, mind you there was only 4 shrimp one each dinner and in the picture online it had 4 shrimp, so where is the extra. She told me she would give me a discount on my next meal. No apology and I informed her it was our birthday meal. I told her I do not want a discount because there will not be a next time. I believe she was being deceptive, I believe she knew she did not have any crab and just wanted to get the sale. Do not go to this restaurant. Go to Don Julio in Oakbrook, they have better food and...
