Goldfinger has decided to put their focus on making traditional lager beers. If u don't know the difference between lagers and ales then u have a lot of googling to do but, suffice it to say, lagers are popular beers. Their beer is so popular they have run out in the past. How many businesses opening during a pandemic can say that? My wife and I both particularly loved the Vienna lager. We drank everything they have offered so far and I can say all their beers are excellent examples of the style of beer they are intended to be. Their pilsner has an added bonus of having an aromatic head on the beer which takes them extra time to pour to get right. It's worth the wait! The head carries the flavor straight to your nasal passages where it wakens up your senses, making the beer that much more enjoyable. Delicious beers: CHECK! They are covid ready and clean surfaces, wear masks and place people at safe distances from each other. The staff is always friendly and lastly they allow for outside food whether it's delivered or brought in. They also had bar snacks for sale last time I was in. So bring some friends and toast to the better times with timeless lagers made the way lagers should taste. Just be ready to get a ride home... Just in case you enjoy too much. This is in a...
Read moreI know this place just opened up and for a establishment that only sells 3 Lager beers is doing very well. I just don't think anybody can survive the fierce competition from the rest of the micro breweries in the Chicagoland area without having a diverse options of beers. You need your regular beers plus your Stouts, Porters, Ipas, Ales, Ciders, Barrel Aged, Wheats and Seasonal Beers, to keep people interested in your products. The wait staff is very friendly, attentive and they seemed enthusiastic about the establishment which is nice to see. Tom, one of the owners doesn't seem to want to diversify his beers and seems completely comfortable only having lager beers. The atmosphere here is very laid back, but it does get loud when the freight train is passing through. I'm an IPA enthusiast and is always my go to beer, but I thought their Original Lager beer...
Read moreI always appreciate a brewery that specializes in nice, clean lagers. Goldfinger is no exception. The Vienna or and Original lagers are extremely drinkable with no off-flavors you sometimes find in styles like these.
The brewery is large, open, and clean with plenty of seating options. The location is great, being so close to downtown Downers and the Metra. I could see myself taking the train here from the city so as nice to have to drive myself back. The other patrons were friendly and easy to talk to. The staff were friendly and inviting.
My only complaint is that there are only a few beers on tap at a time. I'm not much of a pils fan, so they only leaves a few other options for my to enjoy. I would like to see an expanded selection a la Metropolitan, that way there's a little more variety. Hopefully that will be the case one day as the brewers perfect...
