Went to the DG location for the second time today (Monday) at about 3:45. The last time the service was great, the server was training someone so they went through everything on 6he menu - no problem.
Today, service was non existent. We came in and knew exactly what we wanted - drinks, salad, pizza everything. Ordered all at once.
First he forgot the straws, then one refill on ice tea (never saw him again after that). The food runners brought the food and we never saw the waiter again. Was looking around for him and saw him at the host station making drinks (also the bartender?).
Someone who appeared to he a manager came by and asked if we needed something, I guess my rubber necking caught her attention - yes, I'm looking for the server.
She refilled my tea (no ice, left it half full) and brought a box for the leftover pizza (we hsd been done for a while)
A while later he appears with the check "I'll take that when you're ready". I guess dessert isn't an option. At one point we were one of about two tables eating this early so I'm not sure what the problem is but I know I don't want to go back for more of this.
Recommend you get the Monday half price...
Read moreThere are a few things in life that bring me simple joys, and one of them is good food and good dining experiences.
Gia Mia is a place that is a prime example of both of those under one roof.
From the moment I walked in, to the moment myself and my dining companion left, it was quite enjoyable.
Our server was friendly and attentive and even helped me out with making a selection of a beer off their drinks menu. The food was delicious, and they even graciously put the chili flakes that come with orecchiette+sausage on the side.
My only, very minor complaint was the music. While the speakers were playing a lot of the Top 40 hits, both current and from a while back, I kept expecting a little bit of Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra to make an appearance.
As cliché as that may sound, as someone who worked in broadcasting for over a decade and who has been described as an old soul by those who know me best, the golden pipes of Frank, Dean and the Rat Pack are always welcome whenever I am enjoying some good Italian cooking.
Aside from that, it was terrific! I'll be returning to Gia Mia Downers Grove whenever I'm in the area.

Read moreTo the General Manager: We came to your restaurant because of the food, but we left because of service, or lack of thereof. If you have rules, enforce them. Otherwise they carry no importance rather than promote a false expectation for patrons.
We waited for our reservation for an outdoor igloo patiently, and your staff gave us incorrect information about how long the wait would be. On top of that, when we complained, you defended the very guests who had violated your restaurants rules for staying way past their reserved time slot. You insisted there was nothing you could do. You either lack experience or training - because as general manager it is your responsibility to ensure ALL guests are treated fairly and with consideration. You could have done more and failed to do so.
Thoroughly disappointed that we chose your restaurant to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We will not be returning.
UPDATE: It’s been over a month and I have still not heard from the restaurant’s management, even though the comment below said they...
