What a lovely little Italian inspired pizzeria. You cannot go wrong with wood- fired pies, at least I have not so far. We ordered the Stinger, and it was delicious, savory, sweet, fluffy with an outer crust. We were also able to try some of their classic Caesar, spot on, nothing out of the ordinary there. The calamari is delicious, not chewy, cooked perfectly and crispy on the outside. Also, the Paccheri Vodka was delightful, packed with the right amount of flavor and its sausages gave it a little extra salty kick. The interior was nice and clean, modern, and decent in size, a respectable number of tables and the staff was nice as well and fast. The parking is not the best. I only assume on busy days since this is such a nice restaurant there would be a larger lot, but it is a little minimal, but we did find parking with just a little walk to consider. If I am ever in the area I would not mind coming back and enjoying the other options here. But this place did not disappoint, so why not give it a shot.

So, I don’t usually go to a lot of chained restaurants but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food here. This location is in downtown Downers Grove, close to the train tracks. There is a free public parking lot nearby as well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He made sure our food was to our liking. We ordered Tuscan shrimp + polenta, paccheri vodka, and linguine carbonara. Prices were very fair and reasonable. The restaurant was clean. There is seating inside and outside. -Tuscan shrimp + polenta 5 - the combination of ingredients really worked well. It’s not too salty when you eat all of it together. It has a tiny kick from the roasted peppers. -paccheri vodka 5 - the sauce was very creamy and delicious. You got a good amount of meat with the giant rigatoni pieces. -linguine carbonara 5 - this is a lighter dish compared to the paccheri vodka, but it’s still a great dish. You can definitely taste that parmesan cream and black pepper.

Arrived solo, sat at the bar but DID touch base w hostess. Waited 10 minutes and finally grabbed a passing server and asked to place my order. I had looked online so I didn’t need a menu. Server I grabbed was helpful and took and placed my order. Caprese salad and a pepperoni/jalapeno pizza. Salad came- good, not great. Tomatoes were nothing special. Mozz excellent. Pizza arrived- really disappointing. See photo. My amateur pizza-making self would say the dough was overworked, but the cause isn’t important. It was UNDERCOOKED, and the crust was thick and dense like a cheap ballpark pretzel. They’ve got a beautiful wood oven, but it’s a boat anchor if you don’t know how to use it. The pizza I make in my Ooni at home is equal to or better than this.

Went to the DG location for the second time today (Monday) at about 3:45. The last time the service was great, the server was training someone so they went through everything on 6he menu - no problem.

Today, service was non existent. We came in and knew exactly what we wanted - drinks, salad, pizza everything. Ordered all at once.

First he forgot the straws, then one refill on ice tea (never saw him again after that). The food runners brought the food and we never saw the waiter again. Was looking around for him and saw him at the host station making drinks (also the bartender?).

Someone who appeared to he a manager came by and asked if we needed something, I guess my rubber necking caught her attention - yes, I'm looking for the server.

She refilled my tea (no ice, left it half full) and brought a box for the leftover pizza (we hsd been done for a while)

A while later he appears with the check "I'll take that when you're ready". I guess dessert isn't an option. At one point we were one of about two tables eating this early so I'm not sure what the problem is but I know I don't want to go back for more of this.

Recommend you get the Monday half price...

There are a few things in life that bring me simple joys, and one of them is good food and good dining experiences.

Gia Mia is a place that is a prime example of both of those under one roof.

From the moment I walked in, to the moment myself and my dining companion left, it was quite enjoyable.

Our server was friendly and attentive and even helped me out with making a selection of a beer off their drinks menu. The food was delicious, and they even graciously put the chili flakes that come with orecchiette+sausage on the side.

My only, very minor complaint was the music. While the speakers were playing a lot of the Top 40 hits, both current and from a while back, I kept expecting a little bit of Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra to make an appearance.

As cliché as that may sound, as someone who worked in broadcasting for over a decade and who has been described as an old soul by those who know me best, the golden pipes of Frank, Dean and the Rat Pack are always welcome whenever I am enjoying some good Italian cooking.

Aside from that, it was terrific! I'll be returning to Gia Mia Downers Grove whenever I'm in the area.

To the General Manager: We came to your restaurant because of the food, but we left because of service, or lack of thereof. If you have rules, enforce them. Otherwise they carry no importance rather than promote a false expectation for patrons.

We waited for our reservation for an outdoor igloo patiently, and your staff gave us incorrect information about how long the wait would be. On top of that, when we complained, you defended the very guests who had violated your restaurants rules for staying way past their reserved time slot. You insisted there was nothing you could do. You either lack experience or training - because as general manager it is your responsibility to ensure ALL guests are treated fairly and with consideration. You could have done more and failed to do so.

Thoroughly disappointed that we chose your restaurant to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We will not be returning.

UPDATE: It’s been over a month and I have still not heard from the restaurant’s management, even though the comment below said they...
