Definitely one of my new favorite breakfast spots! The Baked Apple is so worth the trip even if you live farther away or if you have to wait. It is located in a small strip mall. If you drive too fast, you might even pass it! They do have parking, however, it is limited. So I’m sure on busy weekends, finding parking might be tough.
My manager, co-worker and I stopped in on a Thursday morning for a birthday breakfast for my co-worker. Of course everyone loves breakfast, but not all breakfast places are great. The baked apple is so delicious, the staff is friendly, it’s cozy and they are doing an outstanding, fantastic, amazing job in regards to COVID “safety”.
Seating: they have indoor and outdoor seating available. Indoor has tables and booths. I didn’t see the outdoor, but they do have a tent and tables set up.
COVID safety: they have signs everywhere inside and outside to promote social distancing, wear a mask, etc. they have sanitizer available when you walk in and by the counter. All staff have on mask, there is the clear guard between the counter and customers, they were disinfecting the tables, they have social distancing in place, and they even give you condiments like sauces as individuals instead of a shared bottle, which is great! They even give your silverware wrapped in a white small paper bag.
Service: The service was just as outstanding as what they are doing for COVID ‘safety’. It is a very casual/welcoming vibe. We we’re greeted right away, the manager on duty was friendly and checked on us and our waitress Diane provided Service above and beyond! She really made our co-workers birthday and meal so special! She paid attention, kept checking on us, was on top of everything we needed including condiments, she really didn’t miss one question about making sure that all of our orders were correct, even asked how we wanted to pay the bill if it was going to be split or not in the beginning, and she made sure our coffee was always topped. The service industry is hard in general, but especially right now. Diane made it seem so easy and she was so kind! When I said it was my coworkers birthday to embarrass them, towards the end of our meal she brought us these birthday pancakes! The pancakes were so fluffy and they were topped with like a smooth cream cheese and sprinkles! It was so good and so sweet of her!
Food: during the pandemic, they do have a wide menu of specialty pancakes, omelettes, skillets and more! Each dish are great portions and everything was so flavorful and delicious!
Make your mornings or breakfast cravings good by coming here!!!
THANK YOU to the essential workers at the baked apple and making customers feel safe during this...
Read moreMy family and I have been coming to The Baked Apple for years. They have a unique menu with a focus on breakfast that carries specialties such as various types of french toast stuffed with sweet cream cheese, a variety of gourmet pancakes, specialty omelets, skillets and more. Since I frequent The Baked Apple so much, I have tried almost everything on the menu. My favorites to get and I would recommend are The Company French Toast, Strawberry Shortcake french toast which is also stuffed with sweet cream cheese, Bananas Foster french toast and is also stuffed french toast, Red Velvet Pancakes, the Cheers Omelet (my favorite) with turkey sausage and red bell peppers. My favorite Benedict is the Country Benny with sausage patties and poached eggs over biscuits with country gravy poured all over it! If you are not that hungry, which does occasionally happen to me, I would recommend the oatmeal with the raisins, brown sugar and granola. When I bring the entire family, I’ll occasionally get a large Apple Pancake for us to share. It’s to die for! The coffee is good and orange juice fresh squeezed. The owners are always present and will usually greet the customers. The same hostess, that has been there for years, is very nice and pleasant with the customers. All the servers seem to be always happy. The restaurant is very clean with great aesthetics. It's just a happy atmosphere that seems to bring the laughter and smiling faces out of people when you are here. This is a must go to if you visit Downers Grove. If you are a local, this is your new...

Even on my way to the Baked Apple on the GPS, I almost missed them. The exterior of the restaurant is quite unassuming and one would easily think that the stretch of strip mall was abandoned, that is until you see the packed carpark.
Luckily we got here on Saturday before 10:30am, because after this time, the place fills up quickly and queues form at the entrance.
The interior of the restaurant is not flashy, but is clean and rustic. It is more like a diner type cafe.
The menu is typical American food with skillets, Benedict, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, etc.
The standout in presentation is the Strawberry Shortcake, french toast filled with sweet cream cheese and topped with fresh strawberries. It looks beautiful and it tastes wonderful! Not overly sweet too.
The El Mariachi skillet was! The jack cheese melted onto the layers of crispy and tender hashbrown with bacon, avocado, and spicy jalapeño were a perfect explosion of aroma and flavors.
Best of all, all these goodness comes with a reasonable price tag, most of the foods are around the $9 mark.
We will...
