Recently, I had the worst dining experience at Anjappar Chettinad Restaurant that I just have to talk about. I was all set to order their whole fish fry and a chicken dish, but was told the fish fry wasn’t available anymore. The staff suggested the Valerum Meen Fry instead, assuring me it was quite similar.
Wanting to double-check, I called again to see if it was indeed similar to a whole fish and if I could bypass their confusing online system by ordering over the phone. Unfortunately, I was nudged towards their online platform, which turned out to be a bit of a maze, leading me straight to DoorDash where the prices were higher than on the restaurant's own website—no heads up given.
Expecting a hearty meal, we ended up with an appetizer-sized, sadly burnt dish that hardly justified the $20 price tag. After driving 25 minutes with my kids in tow, this was a letdown. When I expressed my concerns, the staff's lack of interest in rectifying or even acknowledging the mix-up was really disappointing.
The whole experience left a sour taste, not just from the food but from the service too. Read moreVisited Anjappar Restaurant recently and was thoroughly impressed with the quality of food and service. The Lamb Biriyani was a standout dish; it was soft, perfectly cooked, and literally melted in my mouth. The amount of spice was just right, creating a harmonious balance of flavors that are hard to find outside of India. They were also very accommodating to special requests for sides, and I decided to go for the Netli (anchovy fry) - a choice I didn't regret. It transported me back to Kerala, India, with its spot-on flavor and authenticity.
Not only was the food exceptional, but the presentation of the dishes was also a feast for the eyes. It's clear they take great pride in serving their meals with an extra touch of elegance. Additionally, the service was fast and efficient, making our dining experience smooth and enjoyable. The restaurant itself felt clean and well-maintained, contributing to a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

The staff at Anjappar played a significant role in making our visits memorable. Their pleasant demeanor and accommodating nature added to the overall warmth of the place. Despite the bustling atmosphere, the team went above and beyond to ensure that every diner felt attended to and valued.
As a piece of advice for fellow food enthusiasts, it's prudent to avoid peak hours to fully savor the Anjappar experience. The restaurant tends to get crowded, a testament to its popularity, and choosing a quieter time ensures a more relaxed and enjoyable...
