I've only come to Mayflower a few times, one for dinner, and the other two times were dim sum. This time I came with family and friend for dim sum during the lunch hour.
Wait Time: When you get inside, you need to check in with the hostess and tell them how many people are going to dine in. Then they will give you a number on a piece of paper and will call that number when a table is ready. I recommend asking how long the wait is going to be and decide to wait or go elsewhere. (We were told it'd be a 30 min wait, but it was 20 mins at most. Not too bad.)
Mark Dim Sum Order: We got a list of dim sum in a pamphlet form to order what kind of dim sum we want. Then we handed it to the waiter and he would enter it in the system then the kitchen would make your food. It's very different from where you see people pushing the carts around and going to different tables. But keep in mind that by marking the items it will help the kitchen workers to prepare and bring you the food nice and hot. It's a different experience for sure!
Bringing Dim Sum: After the waiter send the order in the system, he brought back the pamphlet with a printed list of items we ordered. Then, when someone brings the dim sum to our table, they will cross off the item on the list to avoid confusion and see what else was missing. I think it's good to know because if one of the items was missing, then I don't want to be charged for it.
Service: People who worked there was friendly. I think the service was okay, like 3.5 out of 5. I didn't feel like their service wowed me, but in most dim sum places, it's usually a rating of 3 from my experience. My waiter did come remove empty plates from time to time and added hot water to our tea. When they get busy, it's hard to get ahold of them when I need something.
Quality of Food: The food is good and they have my favorite Har Gow, Chong Fun with cilantro, steamed spareribs, and more. It's semi oily and tolerable.
Price: It's expensive because inflation and whatnot. Small dim sum is about $7, medium is $8, and large is $9. Anything that's a special dim sum is probably $10-12 roughly.
Overall, I would come back again for...
Read moreI had friends from out of town. We were seated with no problem. After we were seated we ordered our drinks and given menus. It was 25 mins before our orders were taken. The orders came all all different times. The appetizer arrived, 3 mins later the 1st entree appeared, 15 mins later our 2nd meal came. Our rice order was delivered 15 mins later. After all this time a staff person came to our table to announce the chicken that was ordered wasn't going to be cooked tonight. I ask you don't have chicken; he replied we have chicken we are not making that dish you need to order something else. He handed me the menu I said I need a couple of mins to decide. He said ok I'll be back. MORE THAN 30 MINS PAST HE NEVER RETURNED. I had lemon water for my dish. The manager and a man who 1st said he was the manager were rude uncaring offered I'm sorry. What a joke. Then she finally said we'll take off the drinks. Another joke. Our drink tab was $13 a staff member brought us $4 cash and his exact words were "here" and walked off. I went to the register ask to speak to the manager again I told our drink total was $13 she said that will take off the coke. I told you our drinks that's $13 no we can't give you the money on the beer. I can't tell you how the food tasted because I never tasted it. The was probably this worst dining experiences I have ever had. My friends were tried from flying we spent over 2 hours , slow service. The customer service was unfair and unwilling to resolve the problem. There were some many coming to the table it was never clear who was the main waiter. The lady manager ask me what did you have to eat looking at my clean plate I said that's why we're talking I didn't get anything but this lemon water. She was going to take my meal off the ticket another ha ha try. I told the manager I was going to...
Read moreI don’t dine at Mayflower often and usually I think of the place for its dim sum. We were invited to dinner by a friend and got to try its dinner menu for the second time in more than a decade of living in Dublin.
I’m glad we had dinner here. I was quite impressed by its food. The dish that stood out and took me by complete surprise was the baked beef ribs in house special sauce. The bone next to the beef was a good presentation as I almost thought it could have been bone marrow and I salivated uncontrollably. The beef pieces were so juicy and tender that I was in disbelief. It had a perfect combination of fat and lean meats. I think I could have finished that dish myself, but of course… I had to share. Lol. I did not expect much from the sweet and sour sole filet, but the fish tasted great. It was so easy to pop those pieces in my mouth. I also liked most of the BBQ combo platter, and especially the roasted duck. Think I would get roasted duck from this place now. The hot and sour seafood soup was the least of my favorite - I do eat spicy food, but I didn’t care much for the spiciness in this soup as it overpowered the rest of the soup. I like seafood with tofu pot, but compared with the rest of the dishes, this dish just seemed ordinary. Still tasted great with large squid, shrimp, and scallop pieces.
I did not pay for this meal so I cannot comment on its value, but I must say that I liked the food quality. It must not have been cheap, but to enjoy a meal like this once in a while is worthwhile...
