I've been here quite a few times over the last couple of years. (I have family in the area.) I always end up at this place because my brother likes the coffee, but we both agree that the owner is honestly just the rudest guy ever. I've never once had a good experience here. In fact he literally got upset with me once because I didn't buy anything after my brother had, and another time he got defensive about his artwork while I was LOOKING at it. Started to yell at me and say I can't take pictures, called me rude for not asking, etc. All because I had my phone in my hand while looking at them? I literally had no intentions of taking pictures whatsoever. I don't know. I just honestly hate coming into this place, and my brother doesn't even want to buy the coffee anymore. Not worth it.
Edit - to the owners response. I've never been a barista of any sort and actually the extent of my "coffee knowledge" is minimal. Like I said, my brother likes it. That's why I'm in. Also, like I mentioned again, I had absolutely no intentions of taking pictures of your artwork. I was just standing there, looking at it. I want that to be very clearly. I looked down at my phone, to read a text, and you started going off on me about how rude it was to take pictures of your work. While I see how it would be rude for someone to do that - that someone wasn't me. I see where you're coming from in this subject, all I'm asking is that you don't act the same towards others that were in my situation as well. (Not actually taking photos.) Because I can honestly say it made everything very uncomfortable and awkward for everyone in the store at the time. This review had no dig at the quality of your store whatsoever. My brother likes it. I can say that, but I can also say that we'll wait a while before coming in...
Read moreI have been here twice for a coffee and both times the drinks were great. The Americano was especially tasty. However, the reason I am giving 3 stars is because the owner/barista (not sure if he owns the place but he was there both times and looked like the owner) was extremely rude. The first time he made a pretentious comment and basically scolded my friends for eating at Victory Cafe down the street. I didn't like that but went back because of the good coffee a few weeks later. Once again the guy was incredibly rude. I asked a simple question and he responded with a dickish condescending question instead of just politely answering the question. He knew he messed up because he tried apologizing without actually saying the word sorry. Two times is not a mistake. I have no interest in sitting in a cafe with this guy running the place. Go to The Mean Bean for some great coffee and a very nice proprietor who I had a nice lengthy discussion with about his coffee,...
Read moreHorribly rude, entitled owner, terribly slow service, extremely inconsistent product. Nothing redeeming.
**added post-owner response - I believe that response illustrates the type of service you can expect, perfectly. If you want to go to a cafe where you’ll be treated poorly right from the start (like HE said 😂), this is your place! Pro-tip- supporting this cafe is NOT supporting Dubuquers (he doesn’t employee anyone so no local economy boost in that sense either; sole proprietor). The owner is a resident of Galena, IL, (where his first shop failed) that quite adamantly admonishes the idea of living in Dubuque, at that. I’ve heard him pout and protest about having to take care of the sidewalk in front of his own shop, for his own customers. But I guess our money is good enough for him even though the city...
