Came in for a lunch omakase but changed to dinner option, which means you can get dinner omakase option during lunch hour too if you want. Three piece-difference. For lunch, you will get 12 nigiris and 15 for dinner including wagyu, uni gunkan, and temaki. Not a typical omakase. To start with, they don't have otoshi such as chawanmushi nor miso soup. Started right away from the first nigiri. They don't have wasabi and soy sauce, which means all their nigiris has soy sauce brushed or other sauce on top always. As you may know there are certain nigiris served that way to increas the flavor and have a balance, but not every sushi. You just want to enjoy the original flavor of neta. Wagyu, Uni gunkan, and otoro were good but others not impressive. And it is apparent that they don't have back-kitchen and dachi distinction. That is why its omakase does not have any addition of soba or udon, tempura, or even a dessert at the end of omakase. Now writing this, I get why they didn't have otoshi or miso. They don't have a back-kitech to cook anything I assume. Lastly I was so surprised by one thing. One of their staff suddenly brought out a whole fish with cut head, gut cleaned, put it on the dachi space right next to the chef serving omakase, wiped down the water on the fish etc. Basically he was preparing the fish for dinner, but seriously on the same dachi space right next to the chef and right in front of the customer? What was even more surprising was before we complained, the chef and the servcer both didn't know what was wrong. They didn't say anything to the staff. The chef was friendly and nice though. Bottom line, if you are regular omakase goers, you will be dissapointed. If you are looking for a casual chance to experience omakase with good price point, you may...
Read moreThe portions here are disappointingly minuscule, failing to align with the generous servings typically offered at most omakase establishments. It is baffling to pay a premium for what amounts to a child-sized morsel of rice. The overall experience left much to be desired, falling far short of the traditional omakase standards that emphasize both culinary excellence and customer engagement. The chefs here seemed disinterested in fostering any connection with diners, diminishing the intimate and interactive hallmark of a genuine omakase meal. While this may serve as an entry point for beginners, it is leagues away from an authentic experience. I strongly recommend exploring other options in the area for a more fulfilling and worthwhile venture.
Adding to the disappointment, the service was lackluster. The waiter only approached me only twice—once to take my order and then again to press aggressively for a sizable tip, which felt entirely unwarranted given the mediocre experience. The glowing reviews online appear to stem more from personal connections than genuine merit. As someone who seldom writes reviews, I feel compelled to share my experience as a cautionary tale. For better sushi and omakase recommendations, I encourage others to consult my Yelp Elite profile. I will not return to this establishment and sincerely hope they make meaningful improvements...
Read moreJak omakase has room for improvement. Tip: If you make a reservation with them, be sure to get there way before your reserved time because they prepare the fish only at the very right near the entrance. We were seated far from the chefs, couldn't see them preparing the food, and were always served last.
They don't collect any of the trash from the tissues they provide and the chopstick sealer, so it looked very dirty.
Each piece had varying amounts of wasabi, like Russian Roulette, you never knew if you would be assaulted by a dollop of wasabi hiding under your fish.
Nearing the end of our course, the amount of rice seating the fish got noticeably smaller and smaller until it was the size of a quarter.
The fish itself was good quality with decent cuts of meat. Selection of fish was good ranging from hokkaido scallop to chu toro for the lunch special. I also got the otoro a la carte and it was very delicious.
Disappointingly, my friend and I were still hungry after our 12 course meal plus our a la carte otoro, so we went to Hoo next door and found other people who we saw earlier at the omakase as well. I'm guessing they were not satiated like us lol
tldr - fish quality good, inconsistent nigiri pieces, service just ok
I'd recommend Jak Omakase to people who have never had omakase before or would like to eat good fish at a...
