La Garita Restaurant — Restaurant in Dundee

The restaurant is located within a shopping plaza with plenty of parking available. We were seated right away. The place is fairly spacious and can seat around 50+ people. The chairs are metal and a bit hard on the bum. Bathrooms were clean.

The food portions are reasonable. For appetizers, we had alcapurrias and pastelillos de pollo y carne. Flavor wise, they were good.

For the main dishes, we had the skirt steak and shrimp. The skirt steak needed a bit more adobo, and the mofongo had only a very light taste of garlic. If you’re not a fan of onions, make sure to let them know they’re generous with them on the plate.

The carne frita with arroz con gandules and a side of mayo ketchup was really good flavorful and well seasoned. Again, if you don’t like onions, be sure to mention it, as they’re used generously.

The food was delicious! Such an awesome start to a new restaurant. The mofango satisfied a craving I didn't even know I had, that is how good it was. So moist and flavorful that I ordered one to go for later. The sweet plantains were a yummy treat. To be honest never truly appreciated fried sweet plantains until this experience( left with a second order of those too). I also had the chicharrones de pollo(fried chicken chunks) and they were tender and juicy with a nice crunch on the outside. Really good flavor to them as well. The flan was so smooth rich and creamy just an awesome end to a wonderful meal. I am definitely coming back! I'm so happy I live close...

We came in at the recommendation of our neighbor and we're so glad we did!! The restaurant is situated in a Win Dixie strip mall and can be easily over looked if you're unfamiliar. We were promptly seated and drink order was taken. My husband had a local Puerto Rican beet and I had their house made Sangria which was amazing!! I ordered the beef empanadas with a side of rice and beans. My husband had the Churasco steak with a side of Yucca Fries. The food was presented beautifully and all the flavors were on point.
