Many of the reviews for Dundee Bistro are quite high, and in my opinion, inaccurately high. Maybe, my wife and I were there on and off night, but it did not live up to the 4+ star reviews we read about that lead us to try this restaurant. To be clear, this is not a "bad restaurant", but it is not a 4.5 star rated reataurant either...even for what they do. It was extremely ordinary, like any corporate chain restaurants you can visit, but without the consistency, and without the less expensive menu. We both started with a baby red gem (type of lettuce) salad. $11 per salad. It consisted of ~11 leafs of lettuce, bread crumbs, and a half a handful of grated parmesan. The parmesan was from a bag, and not hand-grated, the bred crumbs were exactly that, and nothing more, and the dressing was very generic. Main meal, my wife had the Cappelletti ($22), and I had the pork chop ($24). The Cappelletti was very tasty, but the size of a slightly larger appetizer, and the pork chop was not a "chop". It was barely 1/4" thick, pounded like they had thought about making schnitzel out of it, and cooked to well done. I should have know when I was not asked for a preferred temperature for my chop. The salt in the wound was the bread. You had to buy it, but...iy came out cold "literally" and the butter was rock solid If you are going to charge for your bread, which I do not mind, it must be worth paying for, and not something you picked up at Safeway, sliced, and tossed on a plate in the fridge until someone orders it. We did not order dessert, or more wine after the salad and main course mediocrity.
Again, Dundee Bistro was not "bad", but it was extremely average, and based on that, overpriced by at least 20-25%. Like I said above...maybe it was just a bad night, I don't know, but I do not plan to find out. If you want to roll the culinary dice on this place, I would stick to not generic food like the pizza or burgers...do lunch, but do not do dinner unless you are ok with average food for above average prices. Sorry...i wanted this place to be special,...
Read moreCame in to celebrate our 21st anniversary. We ordered a glass of wine each to enjoy before our meal exited to try another when our meal arrived. Our wine was delivered and we were asked for our orders. Due to dietary restrictions my wife asked for a substitute to the fries. After an eyeroll (not smart when you are wearing a mask), our server asked what she would like to substitute. My wife said maybe some extra tomatoes or a salad. Another eyeroll, clear enough that we all paused to acknowledge it, including our server. After an uncomfortable amount of silence. Our server left the table. My wife and I, having grown up in Sonoma county working in the hospitality industry, chuckled at the aloofness. In the amount of time a traditional drive thru would take ( not a good sign), our food was delivered by the busser( another bad omen) who literally dropped the plate in front of my wife, sliding the dipping sauce onto the table. I was surprised at the expediency of the delivery as I am sure it should take longer than five minutes on a grill for a chicken breast or hamburger patty to be cooked to completion. My wife indeed recieved a substitute for the fries, a single tomato slice. We began our meal without a second glass as our server never returned. We needed one. The burger was dry and without flavor and the chicken was thin precooked and heated on a grill. The busser came back to remove our plates before we saw our server again He acknowledged that he hadn't been back to check on us and asked if we would like another glass of wine. Having finished our meal I didn't feel like having wine with my wife on our anniversary in a spruced up cafeteria. Got the bill, and sure enough I was charged for an elegant wine country lunch. I could honestly have had the same food and experience at the wendy's in Newburg, picked up 3 bottles of good wine and still saved money. There are thousands of restaurants in the Portland area when someone chooses to spend time and money with you it's...

We came to the restaurant today 6/30/23 Friday evening at around 6pm after a casual promotional business meeting with a tasting room in the area at the advisement of our client. Upon arrival the hostess asked if we had a reservation and when we said we had not asked if we preferred indoor or outdoor seating. We specified our preference as outdoor (there was maybe 20% of the tables seated out there). The hostess took a look at us (we were in t-shirts and leggings and there were not any signs about dress codes listed) and said they needed to check on something and then returned to tell us they only had indoor seating and led us over to a corner table at the bar.
We were there for an hour and a half and no one was ever sat in the outdoor area.
After spending over $400 on food we watched table after table remain empty outside and realized that we were being judged based off of the clothing that they were wearing and placed out of sight.
I do not blame the hostess for making that call but I do disagree with the approach and am thinking it was management driven as they went to "look on a thing" while determining our seating. Had we been told "so the outdoor and dining areas have a more defined dress aesthetic than casual, are you okay with a table in the bar" as opposed to being told every table was reserved would have been significantly more honest.
Our bartender was an incredible server and deserved the sizeable tip we gave their effort, but I doubt we will return again due to the poor direction in predjudice most likely issued...
