Out doing some errands in Dunedin and decided to check out places for brunch. Found Marquise and looked interesting. We found it via GPS but still almost missed it. It is a small cafe tucked behind a convenience store. This was about 10:20 on a Tuesday. It is a small but quaint cafe, only two tables were occupied, so seated right away.
The server brought us waters and menus. We browsed the good number of items. Now I do love quiche, and it looked great, but my interest went to the Shirted Eggs. New to me. So I went for that. My wife chose the Veggie Omellette, but changed when they did not have Salsa. So she picked the Blueberry French Toast instead.
We chatted for a bit and I took photos. Shortly our meals came. I thought the Shirred Eggs would be scrambled but they were added to the bacon and heavy cream, unbroken, so cooked but juicy, and topped with cheddar. It was delicious. And the warm, toasted, baguette was superb.
My wife really enjoyed her French Toast, lots of fresh blueberries, fluffy and fantastic. I wish we tried their coffee also but already had several cups this morning. Then we looked around for a baked goods display since server told us they made their own baked goods. None out but they had fresh croissants, so we got a regular and a chocolate to go. Now my wife was driving today, so couldn’t resist tasting my regular croissant. Yum. It was still warm and flaky, but I only had 1 bite.
Quaint place, nice decorations, great service, great food. Check it out! Plus a nice...
Read moreThe place was packed when we walked in on Sunday morning. There was one waitress, who seemed extremely frazzled. She quickly apologized and said we’d have to wait. We stood at the bar for 10 minutes, without water or coffee. One of the tables got up, and as I went to sit, she told me not to, so that I didn’t get crumbs everywhere. I proceeded to wait 10 more minutes at the bar. She didn’t even attempt to clean the table.
When we were finally invited to sit, the patrons at the neighboring table said it was an hour and a half for their entire service. One server and one cook.
For whatever reason, they were taking online orders even though their kitchen was backed up. Four different Uber drivers came in to pick up “Blake’s order.” None of them left with anything.
The waitress was not very kind at all. Her reply to people complaining about the wait was “it’s a French restaurant. We’re laid back. Everyone has to wait.” She also had no problem complaining to us about another table in the restaurant.
This French cafe gave us our latte/capuccino in pint glasses, which were incredibly sweet. The glasses were then refilled with regular coffee, which was very difficult to handle properly since the glasses themselves became very hot.
The food itself, while lacking in presentation and creativity, was spectacular. If I could ensure that my meal would make it to me, I would always order it online and skip the dining...
Read moreThis place is pure trash. We had the rudest waitress that could not deal with a total of 3 tables and our extremely basic breakfast which included eggs, bacon, toast, and what was supposed to be hash browns which were cubed potatoes, was disgusting and undercooked almost as if they only own a microwave. When we said something about hash browns the waitress literally said that it’s their version of hash browns and I didn’t realize that we could change the definition of words. When scrambled eggs are still clear and runny that’s a problem. I literally didn’t think anyone could ruin a breakfast because I can’t cook and I am able to cook breakfast to completion. When we said something about the food the rude waitress, who apparently everyone has issues with, told us to leave. Wow. Then proceeded we were the first to ever complain and clearly we were not the first. The walls are even disgusting. Someone should probably send the department of health that way. I highly recommend that you try Pete’s Diner, which is where we went to actually eat something after spending an hour at this joke of an establishment. I wish I could give...
