We were in Dunn to pick up our 3 grandchildren for the weekend. We stopped here so everyone could get whatever they wanted. Our server, Sherry, was amazing! She was friendly, she kept our drinks full, kept clean plates coming and old plates removed. And with a table of 6, that’s no easy task.... especially on a busy Friday night. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, with whom we had a great conversation, where he shared some of his history.... he worked for Golden Corral from 1980-88 then bought Western Sizzling in 1989. Learning some of his story was a real treat for our family, especially because my husband and I met at the Western Sizzlin in Aberdeen, NC (now Super China Buffet) in 1987 at the ages of 16 & 18. We are happily married with 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren, 32 years later. And we were able to glean from those memories, all because we stopped in a Western Sizzlin in the small town of Dunn, NC, started a conversation with a friendly server about the Christian music we were encouraged by and she pointed us to the owner who happened to be visiting on a busy Friday night.... God is good y’all ‼️ — with Greg Medlin and Robbin Martin.

After traveling for hours on I-95 we wanted a nice meal rather than a fast food restaurant we found a near by Western Sizzlin in Dunn NC. It was just beyond the lunchtime rush and was seated without waiting. Chose the all you can eat lunch for seniors and found the options were plentiful. We could have chosen a grill cooked steak if we had wanted it which is totally different from most steak restaurants that are available now. Most offer one or the other. I selected fried chicken with livers, fried shrimp along with beef roast with potatoes and onions. The fried catfish was delicious along with the southern favorite sliced fat back. Very nice vegetable options as well. The staff was friendly and helpful and checked on our progress offering refills on our drinks and fresh tableware for return trips. The dessert options looked delicious but because I might have over did it my choice was a quick ice cream cone out the door. Our lunch was delicious and reminded us of how much we miss the Sizzling were we come from. Thanks Western Sizzling.

So we have been going to this Western Sizzling for years and it was always a decent place to eat. Since the new owners took over, the quality of food has been going downhill and we stopped going for dinner. Then this morning we decided to try their breakfast buffet. It was $12.99 and it was pretty rough. The scrambled eggs were brown and the sausage was terrible. We even had a piece of link sausage that was raw in the middle. The waitress was nice and kept our waters filled but the food was very low quality and we won’t be going back. It cost me $41.00 for three people to pick over the food and barely eat anything.

I'm used to rural buffets and all, but this was oddly disappointing.

Food: Sadly, with such limited options compared to an average Golden Coral, I only really ate a few things. I'd say the fried chicken, sad little fried shrimp, baked chicken, and some other items were decent, like a 6/10. Didn't taste off, was always fresh obviously, but other than that pretty much all side items are subpar.

Buffets aren't known for amazing sides, but in this case they straight up will put out anything for the lines of hungry people to eat anyway. With only like four buffet islands, and a bread/dessert isle, I don't really get the buzz about the place. People come to these places because it's the only decent buffet for miles and miles, or they have nostalgia, and prefer it anyway. I'm sort of the same way about Golden Coral, but this place is inferior to an average Golden Coral in every way possible.

Service: Pretty nonexistent, mostly because it was stuffed with people. Even then, they still go to our drinks and all, but we had to track someone down to get more plates. I say the service was a 2/5 because there were staff coming out and trying to top off a lot of food items, even when it was full, sometimes causing a little mess, or holding up the line for a minute or more. This isn't the waiters or most of the staff's fault, but they failed to keep any decent amount of turkey available in the first hour of lunch starting, on Thanksgiving.

For a place that I assume has been over for 5+ years, if not well over 10+ years, they are oddly unprepared for Thanksgiving. Poor organization of food items, no labels AT ALL, so you better just eyeball it and guess if that's a chocolate muffin, or a blueberry muffin. The buffet islands are oddly positioned, people say you can just go where ever, but lines form and it becomes chaotic. Lines colliding with each other, people squeezing to get out of a corner made by the staff on accident I assume. And when there's some giant people walking around, it can be annoying, because it also makes it harder to get food and go sit down. Had to wait to just get my food, and not like a 30 second wait, like two minutes of waiting for the long line to circle around an island, while another line is colliding with it and making it hard to know where to line up at.

Atmosphere: It's old, but not in a charming way. It wasn't dirty really, I just don't really enjoy the stuffy claustrophobic atmosphere. It's the sort of place you know won't be around in 10 years, they maintain an old building well, but once that nostalgic fan base in their area dies out or leaves, they won't have anything. I don't intrinsically dislike old themes and all, I just didn't like the vibe. Golden Corals are an example of how to move forward and not just merely survive. They update their appearance, but still have some charm to them. I hate to compare this chain of buffet to Golden Coral, maybe if it was a local spot and not a chain buffet, I'd say it's unfair to compare them, but they are literally of...

I would like everyone to please read this review.. I used to live in this area, and my family would always come here almost every week. Now that I am older I have moved away from this area, well, I visited my grandparents about a year ago and we went back to eat here. We got in around 4:15 so the lunch prices just switched over to dinner, which is around 13$ or so a person. So as I am walking through the dining area I notice no workers setting out any food, it looked absolutely desolate around the buffet. Me and my wife ordered the dinner buffet, and our first trip to the buffet, we noticed the food was absolutely cold, there was no fresh bread, everything looked like it had sat there for at least 2 hours, it was bad, and I don'y really write reviews about stuff like this but I was extremely unhappy.. So after taking 1 or 2 bites of my food me and my wife decided we refused to eat the food that was out there, and wanted what we actually paid for which was dinner price food. So we asked our waitress if we could speak to the manager, her words were (One is not here, and the other one is helping unload the truck) so we literally waited about 40 minutes for a manger.... keep in mind 30$ later and not eaten but two bites, we were definitely displeased. About 7 waitresses were behind us at the drink station laughing and playing on their phone. So then a manger finally comes in, I forgot his name but he has been working there since I was a young kid. We tell him the food is cold, old, and we want our full refund (keep in mind we haven't even started eating yet because we refused to) His exact words were (I can't give you a refund because you have been here for an hour and have "been eating"). I then told him, (we have not ate anything besides these two bites because we knew right then we wanted our money back and were not going to pay for this food. He tells us he can't do anything about it. So yea, long story short, a childhood memory was ruined that day, we walked out with a 10$ giftcard to western sizzlin which we threw away, and we also left hungry at 30$ lighter. Me and my wife still talk till this day about that experience, and it makes me...

We took friends of ours from Fayetteville NC to go out to eat with us and we are from Mt.Olive, NC and it had been a while since we had been....we used to go weekly when Bobby was the owner and I can say that the food was Always on point and never been let down ..... when the new gentleman who I met Charles bought the restaurant and he had made lots of changes to the menu and it was not the best in my opinion......and we had stopped going there and had went back several months back and it still wasn't the best but I give credit that Charles was trying...... well fast forward to Saturday afternoon on February 11,2023 as I stated earlier we took our dear oldest friends there and must Say and I told our Server who was excellent and attentive that This Was Absolutely the Best food and I was very much impressed with the wonderful selection and great variety of meats and veggies and the salad bar .....I just wanted to say that I thought it was neat how they had separately done the Cooked chicken....with the breast, legs and chicken wings in separate pans......Those were the Absolute best Chicken Wings I have ever had and they were cooked to perfection.....tender , moist , golden brown and everything that I ate I can honestly say that If it's been awhile and you have heard from others in the past about bad things ......Please take my word and I have absolutely nothing to gain from this review other than letting people know that Charles keep on in the direction that you are now heading with Your Restaurant and You will be as big and bad as the Western Sizzling in Dunn once had been.... Congratulations on keeping in your new direction and much success.....I know this is a very long post and review but I feel it is much Deserved and looking forward to seeing everyone and making memories there again.!!!!! Gave you a 4 star and it was 5 ,,,but had a teacher say that only the Author gets a 5 because they wrote the...
