Been a bit since my last review of an establishment. Wife and I are doing a southwestern Colorado tour after living here for 17 + years. I wanted BBQ. I wanted Good/to great BBQ. I was let down. We have Serious Texas BBQ in our hometown and can get that at anytime. We chose T's Smokehouse over 2 other recommendations in town. This was based on having just gotten off the Durango /Silverton train and its proximity to the station. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich and definitely enjoyed it. The pork was moist, but for me that is where the meal ended. I got the sampler [1/4 smoked chicken, ribs (2)BBQ beef, Pulled pork, Andouille sausage w/ cornbread] and a side of Red Beans and rice. Ribs- so much tooth that a dentist would have had a hard time extracting the meat. Odd flavor. Like they were smoked in saran wrap and the seasoning on the outside of the saran wrap. 1/4 chicken- way too heavily smoked and dry. BBQ beef, I had better SOS in the service in boot camp. Pulled pork was moist but to me lacking flavor. The cornbread? Honestly was just bad. My wife who was a server in the past (for 20+ years) and finds it hard to complain about a dining experience was disappointed in the cornbread as it was cold and flavorless. Their BBQ sauce may have had flavor but I might have lost out on that due to the fact the chicken was too heavily smoked. The Andouille sausage was very good and had a good spice to it. Price for the BBQ was in line with most but for the quality not so much. As far as service goes, it was OK. I get it might have been better if we were regulars. The person who took our order at the counter was devoid of any real personality for, what seemed to me the tourists, but for a regular he chatted. I tried not to make too much of it as I am sure it was a long day for him. I get that but it needed to be mentioned.I do not enjoy giving a bad review. I love food. I love good food but I was let down on...
Read moreI went to pick up a to-go order and specified what I ordered and the name it was associated with, but was still handed the wrong order. I figured I didn’t need to double check the order because it wasn’t McDonald’s. Apparently I needed to double check though. I went back to switch the order and the owner came out to tell me exactly how wrong I was in everything I had done to pick up the order. I apologized, but she kept going with how I should have paid more attention, not that she’s wrong, but her employees should have been paying more attention to what I was saying when I picked the order up. They not only gave me the wrong order, but they also screwed someone else’s order up. When an owner is deliberant to accept their own wrong doings, it just drives me nuts. Grow up and accept that people make mistakes everyday, especially as a business owner. It happens. Their food is great, but apparently the owner thinks she’s above making mistakes. I hope you learn from this experience. Edit: the owner spoke to me and we cleared everything up. This is genuinely a good business, just a bad day. We’re all human and have bad moments, but it’s how we choose to learn from them the next day and apply...
Read moreA buddy and I were staying at The General Puller Hotel just down the street and I saw it on Google Maps so it was already somewhere we we considering. However, one of the bartenders at Carver Brewing Co. suggested it so as a visitor passing through we took that advice.
Well, the food was awesome. We split the Combination ($20) and as you can see it was a lot. So much actually that we didn't even end up going to dinner. Now it was 2:30 once we got our food, but this will give you an idea of the portion for two active guys on a snow bro trip.
The cashier/server was very nice and answered the questions we had. We arrived at 2pm after walking from the hotel to the Animas River Trail and around (crossing the interstate at the first stoplight you get to) until we reached the restaurant. It was 4 mi total. We were the only customers so hopefully it was just the odd hour in a Tuesday because the food was worth the visit.
TL:DR Great food, awesome...
