The Bricks Street Hotel + The Artisan: A Destination Worth the Drive
The Artisan in Durant, Oklahoma is nothing short of a hidden treasure (but not for long), an absolute gem in the most unexpected of places. From the start, the experience was unforgettable. The wine list had a personal touch: they happened to carry a champagne my wife and I first shared 34 years ago. That moment alone set the tone for an evening that was equal parts nostalgic and exceptional. We paired that with a $65 bottle of Caymus Cabernet, (That’s right, a 2022 Caymus Cabernet; not a second label) and when we couldn’t finish it, they graciously corked it for us to take home. Now, the food. My wife’s Wagyu filet was without question the best either of us have ever tasted—and I’ve eaten steaks all over the country. My pork chop? Absolutely phenomenal, the best I’ve ever had. The Brussels sprouts? The best we’ve had anywhere. And the goat cheese and crostini appetizer? Outstanding. In fact, EVERYTHING was so good that when we couldn’t finish it all, they boxed it all up—and those leftovers turned into one of the best meals we’ve ever had the next day.
The service was flawless. Josh, the GM, runs a tight ship with a soft hand. Our waitress, Kaycee,, was attentive, warm, and spot-on with recommendations. The chef, who came over from 1832 at the Choctaw Casino and brought others with her, deserves serious applause. She will be famous soon enough. This was world-class execution across the board.
The Bricks Street Hotel The Artisan sits on the ground floor of The Bricks Hotel, and the hotel itself deserves a shout-out. Think New York City boutique hotel meets small-town Oklahoma. Stylish yet practical, with a comfy bed, big TV, fridge and microwave, and a shower that could be its own room. EZ in and out, right in the heart of downtown Durant. It ties the whole experience together—dinner, a walk through the local boutiques, and then a night in one of the coziest boutique hotels we’ve stayed in.
Bottom line: if you live within two hours of Durant, this is a destination worth every mile. Whether you’re in town for a show at Choctaw Casino (like the Turnpike Troubadours concert that brought us there), or just looking for a special evening or weekend, make The Artisan and The Bricks Street Hotel your plan.
Full credit to owner Teddy Gabbard for pulling all of this together.
It’s rare to find a dining experience and lodge setting that fire on all 12 cylinders, but this place does exactly that.
We’ll absolutely be back....
Read moreThe Artisan is one of those rare places that gets everything right atmosphere, flavor, and community spirit. Located inside the charming Brick Street Hotel, it offers a cozy yet elevated dining experience that feels both special and familiar. Whether you're stopping in for brunch, lunch, or dinner, you’re in for a treat.
Lunch was around $15 per person, and every plate was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. From the golden omelet and crispy potatoes to the juicy burger with fresh toppings, everything tasted as good as it looked. And dinner? Their steak was rich, tender, and worth the splurge. If you're not in the mood for something upscale, they offer adorable, approachable options that are just as satisfying—like their French dip sandwich with house-made chips and au jus that hits all the comfort food notes.
But what truly makes The Artisan shine is their commitment to the Durant community. The owner, Teddy is a consistent supporter of local events and causes—most recently providing breakfast for the Durant Area Chamber of Commerce Coffee Network in September. That kind of generosity speaks volumes. It’s clear they’re not just serving food they’re serving people.
The staff is just as impressive friendly, attentive, and actively involved in the community. You’ll often see them participating in local happenings, supporting other small businesses, and making sure every guest feels welcome. Their warmth adds to the overall experience and makes you want to come back again and again.
