Ordered: Shrimp shumai (fried dumplings) and 6 different rolls

Not good value for the money.

The Good: the food tasted good generally speaking. the dumplings were good and the sushi was adeqaute if not exciting or unique in any way.

the service was freindly and welcoming

The Bad: firstly dont be fooled by the “1/2 price” special that is offered everyday for anyone buying two or more sushi rolls. the rolls are fairly small as well as the appetizer of shumai. portions are just small all around. definitely did not get $60 worth of sushi (although thats what we spent)

also, the amount of fish in the rolls is not necessarily generous or abundant.

while service was friendly, it was really slow. it took so long to get our rolls. both times. (we had to order twice bc the rolls were so small). it just took way too long to get our food especially considering we were 1 of 3 tables in the restaurant at prime dinner time on a saturday night.

In general, there has got to be better sushi places around. I wouldnt say for sure dont ever go here, i would just say weigh your option. was not impressed and will try a different restaurant next time...

We decided to step out of our comfort zone to try a new place that had high reviews for Japanese food and Sushi. When we ordered the food, 2 rolls of sushi, Udon, and house fried rice which came with a side salad, the hostess mentioned they are behind on sushi and should take 20-25 mins. We were hungry already but decided this was going to be worth the wait. 30 mins later, I went back in and was informed the wait would be 5 more mins. We were upset, but we had already paid for the food and had no choice, so we waited. Order was placed at 6:42PM, we did not get our food until 7:25. That was twice the amount of time we were expecting to wait for, what I thought was, a simple order.

Nevertheless, we got home and upon taking out the food, realized our food was not complete. We had everything except for the salad. This was a disappointment, not only because the food was not complete, but because we had waited 43 mins for the food just to be not accurate. (they did provide the ginger dressing for the salad though...)

Overall, we will not be trying...

I've been going to Akashi since the place originally opened, while I was sad each time the management of Akashi's has changed (three times now), because I had to say bye to people that I had gotten to know. But I am happy to say that each time the new management has continued the great food and excellent service. The current management is no exception, they are very friendly and if you go for dinner, you can strike up a pleasant conversation with them (don't try it at lunch time, which is usually a very busy time for them).

I think the new streamlined menu is nicer and easier to find things. But if asked they are more than willing to do something from the old menu if they have the ingredients on hand. Or even bring an item back if they get enough requests for the item, example the Stoplight - yum!

Recently I was diagnosed with a number of food sensitives (including soy), and our waitress was so great in helping me avoid items with my food...

Fresh, colorful, and delicious sushi in Durham! Akashi Sushi is a hidden gem inside Park Terrace Center. The menu offers a wide variety of sushi, hibachi, and noodles—perfect whether you want a quick bite or a sit-down meal. The sushi presentation is absolutely beautiful, with vibrant colors, generous portions, and fresh ingredients that taste just as good as they look. The rolls are creative yet balanced, and the sashimi is fresh and tender. The avocado-topped rolls drizzled with sauce were a standout! Service is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxed for a casual meal. If you’re in the Durham area looking for quality Japanese food at a fair price, Akashi Sushi is definitely worth a visit.

This is by far our favorite sushi place in Durham! We'd been to several and never really found that great spot -- and found many to be overpriced to boot -- and then we found Akashi. The sushi is excellent and the prices can't be beat. It's nothing fancy, but the food is really good, the staff is friendly, and the price is right. Every time we go, my husband and I split 4 rolls. We've tried probably half of the rolls on the menu at this point. Our favorites are the Wolfpack, Caribbean, Akashi, Volcano and White Dragon. I can't speak to the rest of the menu, we've only had the sushi, but if you're looking for a good, solid sushi joint, Akashi is the place to go!

Went here during phase 2 of NC quarantine. I’m a big sashimi fan and the sashimi here was excellent. Look at how well cut it is! And it was great proportions of fat to lean. My gripes however were overwhelming. I had to put the entire wasabi blob into my soy sauce in order to taste any wasabi. Only a little wasabi should be enough to taste it. Then the katsu. It was a huge plate but the katsu was so dry. I’d never had katsu so dry and tough like that before. Plus the fried rice was your typical Panda Express fried rice. Not great. 3 stars because it was decent for most taste buds and I’m just a diva.
